Galectin-2, Galectins-5 and -9, and Galectins-4 and -6.

Background Galectin (Gal) is considered a promising immune checkpoint molecule. More and more studies have shown that high expression levels of galectins in hematologic cancer are positively correlated with poor clinical prognosis.

Galectin-1 is essential for efficient liver regeneration following hepatectomy [PDF]
Galectin-1 (Gal1) is a known immune/inflammatory regulator which actsboth extracellularly and intracellularly, modulating innate and adaptive immuneresponses. Here, we explored the role of Gal1 in liver regeneration using 70% partial hepatectomy (PHx) of

The Clinical Utility of Biochemical Biomarkers in Colorectal Cancer [PDF]
Colorectal cancer (CRC) ranks as the third most prevalent cancer worldwide and is a leading cause of cancer-related mortality. Since many colon cancers present no significant clinical symptoms, identifying new biomarkers or a set of biological indicators

Role of Galectin in Cardiovascular Conditions including Cirrhotic Cardiomyopathy
Abnormal cardiac function in the setting of cirrhosis and in the absence of a primary cardiac disease is known as cirrhotic cardiomyopathy. The pathogenesis of cirrhotic cardiomyopathy is multifactorial but broadly is comprised of two pathways. The first

Regulation of eosinophilia and allergic airway inflammation by the glycan-binding protein galectin-1 [PDF]
Galectin-1 (Gal-1), a glycan-binding protein with broad antiinflammatory activities, functions as a proresolving mediator in autoimmune and chronic inflammatory disorders. However, its role in allergic airway inflammation has not yet been elucidated.

Galectins constitute a family of soluble animal lectins defined by their evolutionary conserved carbohydrate recognition domain and their affinity for β-galactosides containing glycoconjugates. Each galectin is characterized by a specific spatio-temporal distribution and a unique set of ligands and molecular partners. Interestingly, galectins are found

Electrostatically layered nanoparticles (NPs) coated with anionic polypeptides selectively target cancer cells by engaging amino acid transporters. Poly(L‐glutamate) (PLE) coatings cluster the glutamine transporter SLC1A5, prolonging NP surface retention, while poly(L‐aspartate) (PLD) coatings also bind SLC1A3, potentially promoting faster ...

Microdomain forming proteins in oncogenesis
Lipid rafts are lateral assembles of cholesterol, sphingomyelin, glicosphingolipids and specific proteins within cell plasma membrane. These microdomains are involved into a number of important cellular processes including membrane rearrangement, protein
