Optimized Long‐TE 1H sLASER MR Spectroscopic Imaging at 3T for Separate Quantification of Glutamate and Glutamine in Glioma

open access: yesJournal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Glutamate and glutamine are critical metabolites in gliomas, each serving distinct roles in tumor biology. Separate quantification of these metabolites using in vivo MR spectroscopy (MRS) at clinical field strengths (≤ 3T) is hindered by their molecular similarity, resulting in overlapping, hence indistinguishable, spectral peaks ...

Drug resistance in idiopathic generalized epilepsies: Evidence and concepts

open access: yesEpilepsia, Volume 63, Issue 12, Page 3007-3019, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Although approximately 10%–15% of patients with idiopathic generalized epilepsy (IGE)/genetic generalized epilepsy remain drug‐resistant, there is no consensus or established concept regarding the underlying mechanisms and prevalence. This review summarizes the recent data and the current hypotheses on mechanisms that may contribute to drug ...

Lacosamide decreases neonatal seizures without increasing apoptosis

open access: yesEpilepsia, Volume 63, Issue 12, Page 3051-3065, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Objective Many seizing neonates fail to respond to first‐line anticonvulsant medications. Phenobarbital, an allosteric modulator of γ‐aminobutyric acid type A (GABAA) receptors, has low efficacy in treating neonatal seizures and causes neuronal apoptosis. Nonetheless, it is one of the most used anticonvulsants in this age group.

Preemptive Propofol Administration in Spinal Cord Injury: Effects on Pain‐Induced Hypertension, Neuroinflammation, and Functional Recovery in Rats

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Spinal cord injury (SCI) triggers secondary damage, including pain‐induced hypertension, inflammation, and hemorrhage, impairing recovery. This study evaluated the efficacy of general anesthesia with preemptive propofol administration in mitigating secondary damage in SCI rats. SCI was induced in rats using a contusion model.

Successful treatment of adult Dravet syndrome patients with cenobamate

open access: yesEpilepsia, Volume 63, Issue 12, Page e164-e171, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Dravet syndrome (DS) is a rare, drug‐resistant, severe developmental and epileptic encephalopathy caused by pathogenic variants in the α subunit of the voltage‐gated sodium channel gene SCN1A. Hyperexcitability in DS results from loss of function in inhibitory interneurons.
