Contribution of carbohydrate-related metabolism in Herpesvirus infections

open access: yesCurrent Research in Microbial Sciences, 2023
Human herpesviruses are enveloped viruses with double-stranded linear DNA genomes highly prevalent in the human population. These viruses are subdivided into three subfamilies, namely alphaherpesvirinae (herpes simplex virus type 1, HSV-1; herpes simplex

Evidence for a Novel Gammaherpesvirus as the Putative Agent of Malignant Catarrhal Fever Disease in Roan Antelopes (Hippotragus equinus)

open access: yesViruses, 2023
Upon the sudden death of two captive roan antelopes (Hippotragus equinus) that had suffered from clinical signs reminiscent of malignant catarrhal fever (MCF) in a German zoo, next generation sequencing of organ samples provided evidence of the presence ...

Novel Mammalian Herpesviruses and Lineages within the Gammaherpesvirinae : Cospeciation and Interspecies Transfer [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 2008
ABSTRACT Novel members of the subfamily Gammaherpesvirinae , hosted by eight mammalian species from six orders (Primates, Artiodactyla, Perissodactyla, Carnivora, Scandentia, and Eulipotyphla), were discovered using PCR with pan-herpesvirus DNA polymerase (DPOL) gene primers and genus-specific glycoprotein

Role of Epitranscriptomic and Epigenetic Modifications during the Lytic and Latent Phases of Herpesvirus Infections

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2022
Herpesviruses are double-stranded DNA viruses occurring at a high prevalence in the human population and are responsible for a wide array of clinical manifestations and diseases, from mild to severe.

Systematic Determination of Herpesvirus in Free-Ranging Cetaceans Stranded in the Western Mediterranean: Tissue Tropism and Associated Lesions

open access: yesViruses, 2021
The monitoring of herpesvirus infection provides useful information when assessing marine mammals’ health. This paper shows the prevalence of herpesvirus infection (80.85%) in 47 cetaceans stranded on the coast of the Valencian Community, Spain.

Porcine lymphotropic herpesvirus (Gammaherpesvirinae) DNA in free-living wild boars (Sus scrofa Linnaeus, 1758) in Brazil

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Science, 2021
Suid gammaherpesvirus 3, 4, and 5 (porcine lymphotropic herpesvirus - PLHV-1, -2, and -3) are viruses that infect domestic and feral pigs. This study examined the presence of PLHV DNA in biological samples from free-living wild boars circulating in a Brazilian geographical region with a high density of commercial domestic pigs.Lung samples of 50 free ...

Structural Insight into KsBcl-2 Mediated Apoptosis Inhibition by Kaposi Sarcoma Associated Herpes Virus

open access: yesViruses, 2022
Numerous large DNA viruses have evolved sophisticated countermeasures to hijack the premature programmed cell death of host cells post-infection, including the expression of proteins homologous in sequence, structure, or function to cellular Bcl-2 ...

Equine multinodular pulmonary fibrosis and presumed corticosteroid‐induced side effects in a horse

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, Volume 35, Issue 9, Page e563-e570, September 2023., 2023
Summary Equine multinodular pulmonary fibrosis (EMPF) associated with herpesvirus‐5 infection (EHV‐5), is a severe, fibrosing interstitial lung disease of horses. Most common reported clinical signs are pyrexia, weight loss, depression, respiratory distress with tachypnoea and cough. Multiple tissue tropism of the EHV‐5 has been suggested.

Clinically relevant DNA viruses in pregnancy

open access: yesPrenatal Diagnosis, Volume 43, Issue 4, Page 457-466, April 2023., 2023
Abstract Infections by DNA viruses during pregnancy are associated with increased health risks to both mother and fetus. Although not all DNA viruses are related to an increased risk of complications during pregnancy, several can directly infect the fetus and/or cause placental dysfunction. During Non‐Invasive Prenatal Testing analysis, the presence of

Glucose and mannose analogs inhibit KSHV replication by blocking N‐glycosylation and inducing the unfolded protein response

open access: yesJournal of Medical Virology, Volume 95, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Kaposi's sarcoma‐associated herpesvirus (KSHV) is the etiological agent for Kaposi's sarcoma (KS), an HIV/AIDS‐associated malignancy. Effective treatments against KS remain to be developed. The sugar analog 2‐deoxy‐ d‐glucose (2‐DG) is an anticancer agent that is well‐tolerated and safe in patients and was recently demonstrated to be a potent ...
