Cross‐species transmission of feline herpesvirus 1 (FHV‐1) to chinchillas

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 8, Issue 6, Page 2532-2537, November 2022., 2022
First report of Feline herpesvirus 1 (FHV‐1) infection in Chinchillas detected by nested PCR. The fragment (253bp) of FHV‐1 gD gene from chinchillas shared 98.81% homologous with the other FHV‐1 strains. And phylogenetic tree analysis showed that these chinchillas strains were clustered together with FHV‐1. Abstract Background Herpesviruses are a class

Host shutoff activity of VHS and SOX-like proteins: role in viral survival and immune evasion

open access: yesVirology Journal, 2020
Background Host shutoff refers to the widespread downregulation of host gene expression and has emerged as a key process that facilitates the reallocation of cellular resources for viral replication and evasion of host antiviral immune responses.

Gammaherpesvirus Infections in Cattle in Europe

open access: yesViruses, 2021
The genus Macavirus, subfamily Gammaherpesvirinae, comprises ungulate viruses that infect domestic and wild ruminants and swine. They cause asymptomatic latent infections in reservoir hosts and malignant catarrhal fever in susceptible species.

Molecular detection and assessment of the epidemiological risk factors associated with equine herpesvirus 2 and 5 in working equids in central Ethiopia

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 8, Issue 6, Page 2396-2403, November 2022., 2022
This study revealed the molecular detection of EHV‐2 and EHV‐5 in horses and donkeys in central Ethiopia. We demonstrated that the association between EHV‐2‐test‐positive equids and displaying of clinical signs of respiratory disease, which suggests EHV‐2 involvement in the development of respiratory disease.

Molecular detection of two new putative species of gammaherpesvirus in petaurid possums

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, Volume 100, Issue 11, Page 562-565, November 2022., 2022
A molecular survey of herpesviruses in Australian native mammals was conducted, spanning 260 individuals from 27 species. Among the herpesviruses detected, a putative new gammaherpesvirus species was detected in the yellow‐bellied glider (Petaurus australis), and another in the critically endangered Leadbeater's possum (Gymnobelideus leadbeateri).

MODERN VIEWS ON THE CIRCULATION OF HERPES VIRUSES IN THE OKHOTSK SEA STELLER SEA LION (EUMETOPIAS JUBATUS, SCHREBER, 1776)

open access: yesЮг России: экология, развитие, 2019
Aim. To evaluate the possibility of herpes viruses circulation and possible routes of transmission in population of Steller sea lions of the Sea of Okhotsk by combining a thorough literature study with screening of blood sera samples of Steller sea lion ...

Contribution to Herpesvirus Surveillance in Beaked Whales Stranded in the Canary Islands

open access: yesAnimals, 2021
Herpesviruses (HVs) (Alpha- and Gammaherpesvirinae subfamilies) have been detected in several species of cetaceans with different pathological implications. However, available information on their presence in beaked whales (BWs) is still scarce.

On phylogenetic relationships among major lineages of the Gammaherpesvirinae

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 2005
Phylogenetic relationships within the subfamily Gammaherpesvirinae of the family Herpesviridae were investigated for three species in the genus Lymphocryptovirus (or γ1 group) and nine in the genus Rhadinovirus (or γ2 group). Alignments of amino acid sequences from up to 28 genes were used to derive trees by maximum-likelihood and Bayesian Monte Carlo ...

A novel alphaherpesvirus and concurrent respiratory cryptococcosis in a captive koala (Phascolarctos cinereus)

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, Volume 100, Issue 7, Page 329-335, July 2022., 2022
A novel alphaherpesvirus was detected in a captive adult, lactating, female koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) admitted to James Cook University Veterinary Emergency Teaching & Clinical Hospital in March 2019, showing signs of anorexia and severe respiratory disease. Postmortem examination revealed gross pathology indicative of pneumonia.

Proteomic characterization of murid herpesvirus 4 extracellular virions. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Gammaherpesvirinae, such as the human Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and the Kaposi's sarcoma associated herpesvirus (KSHV) are highly prevalent pathogens that have been associated with several neoplastic diseases.
