Changes of Ganglioside GM3 Expression in Porcine Oocyte Maturation and Early Embryonic Development In Vitro

open access: yesJournal of Animal Reproduction and Biotechnology, 2015
Gangliosides exist in glycosphingolipid-enriched domains on the cell membrane and regulate various functions such as adhesion, differentiation, and receptor signaling.

A bacterium lipopolysaccharide that elicits Guillain-Barre syndrome has a GM1 ganglioside-like structure

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Medicine, 1993
There is a strong association between Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) and Penner's serotype 19 (PEN 19) of Campylobacter jejuni. Sera from patients with GBS after C. jejuni infection have autoantibodies to GM1 ganglioside in the acute phase of the illness.

Sphingomyelin and GM1 Influence Huntingtin Binding to, Disruption of, and Aggregation on Lipid Membranes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Huntington disease (HD) is an inherited neurodegenerative disease caused by the expansion beyond a critical threshold of a polyglutamine (polyQ) tract near the N-terminus of the huntingtin (htt) protein. Expanded polyQ promotes the formation of a variety

Development of a Novel Extracellular Vesicle‐Based Biomarker Approach for Pediatric High‐Grade Glioma

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Biology, Volume 5, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Pediatric high‐grade gliomas (pHGGs) account for 20% of childhood brain tumours and are associated with poor survival. Currently, pHGG detection relies on MRI, a costly and time‐consuming procedure. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) carry molecular markers indicative of their cellular origin and can be isolated from various biofluids, offering an ...

Investigating the interaction between the tetraspanin CD82 and gangliosides, and, The binding partners of CLEC14A and the function of the CLEC14A extracellular domain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Project 1: CD82 is a tetraspanin involved in tumour metastasis suppression. It is downregulated in several cancers including breast, liver and prostate cancer.

Gangliosides for acute spinal cord injury. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
BACKGROUND: Spinal cord injury (SCI) results in loss of feeling and movement. The consequences can be devastating for the patient and his or her carers. Global estimates of the number of new cases annually range from 15 to 40 per million.

Aging of the Hematopoietic System: Mechanisms, Consequences, and Systemic Interactions

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 2, February 2026.
Hematopoietic aging arises from intrinsic stem‐cell decline and bone‐marrow niche dysfunction, leading to myeloid skewing, immunosenescence, and clonal hematopoiesis. These changes drive systemic inflammation and multi‐organ disease, which in turn further disrupt the bone‐marrow niche and hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) function, creating a vicious cycle

Tumor-infiltrating macrophages influence the glycosphingolipid composition of murine brain tumors

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1998
A procedure was developed to analyze glycosphingolipids (GSLs) in tumor-infiltrating macrophages (TIMs). The procedure entailed dissociating tumors into single cell suspensions with a concurrent metabolic labeling of GSLs using [14C]galactose.

GD3, a prominent ganglioside of human melanoma. Detection and characterisation by mouse monoclonal antibody

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Medicine, 1982
Mouse monoclonal antibody AbR24 has a high degree of specificity for human melanoma cells when tested on viable cultured cells using the protein A mixed hemagglutinin serological assay.

Snake and spider toxins induce a rapid recovery of function of botulinum neurotoxin paralysed neuromuscular junction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Botulinum neurotoxins (BoNTs) and some animal neurotoxins (-Bungarotoxin, -Btx, from elapid snakes and -Latrotoxin, -Ltx, from black widow spiders) are pre-synaptic neurotoxins that paralyse motor axon terminals with similar clinical outcomes in patients.
