Flow through Discovery Gap

Journal of Physical Oceanography, 1987
Abstract A narrow gap (Discovery Gap) in the East Azores Fracture Zone at 37°N in the eastern Atlantic provides a channel for the exchange of bottom water between the Madeira and Iberian abyssal basins. A detailed survey defines its length (150 km), width (10–50 km), depth of sills (near 4800 m) and sediment thickness (0–500 m).

Unsteady Intake Valve Gap Flows

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1995
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The performance of engine intake ports is traditionally characterized by pressure drop and in-cylinder swirl or tumble ill steady flow at discrete valve lifts. These characteristics are often complemented by velocity profiles in the cylinder and the valve gap, but the influence of valve and piston motion cannot be ...

Managing the Cash Flow Gap

Journal of Corporate Accounting & Finance, 2014
We are still in an extended period of economic turbulence, writes author and veteran business advisor Jim Edwards. And there is no new evidence that things are changing for the better. The U.S. gross domestic product fell by 2.9% during the first quarter of 2014. That is not a good signal for business cash inflows.

Gap Size Effect on Tip-Gap Turbulent Flow Structure

41st AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference &amp; Exhibit, 2005
This paper presents results from a thorough study of the tip-gap turbulent flow structure in a low-speed linear compressor cascade wind tunnel at Virginia Tech. The endwall pressure measurements and the surface oil flow visualizations were made on a stationary endwall to obtain the flow features and to determine the measurement profiles of interest.

Gap-Junctional Coupling Measured by Flow Cytometry

Experimental Cell Research, 2000
A method is described which reliably quantifies the degree of intercellular communication via gap junctions by combining a dye-loading technique with fluorescence-activated flow cytometry. Our experiments expand former measurements of other groups by analyzing the time- and density-dependent onset of coupling with a fixed ratio of donor to recipient ...

Small-Gap Flows

1984
Abstract : This report consists of five chapters, namely: (1) Airfoils in extreme ground effect; (2) Automobile aerodynamics; (3) Shallow-water waves at discontinuities; (4) Sliding sheets; (5) Wings over water. These chapters are independent of each other, although linked by the 'small-gap' theme.

Simulation of Cylinder Flows with Gaps

2021
This thesis presents results of computations of supersonic flow over finite cylinders with varying geometries at the cylinder-wall juncture. The flow domain and geometries were modeled after experiments conducted at University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI). CREATE Kestrel (KCFD) was used to perform improved-delayed detached simulations (IDDES) of

The Circular Gap Couette Flow Modeling

Siberian Journal of Physics, 2016
The simulation of Couette flow inside the circular gap between coaxial cylinders is observed due to the difficulty of the experimental implementation of the equal plane one, especially for rarefied gas conditions and high Knudsen numbers. Geometry configuration of the experimental facility have been defined in order to minimize speed profile deviation ...

Minimizing Dentinal Fluid Flow Associated with Gap Formation

Journal of Dental Research, 2006
The relationship between gap formation and outward fluid flow and procedures to minimize both phenomena were investigated in extracted human premolars restored in vitro with MOD composite restorations. We hypothesized that either glass-ionomer cement (GIC) liners or low-shrinkage composite could reduce fluid flow related to gap formation.

Parallel Flow in the Gap

1972
We shall start now to work out some fundaments for the so-called static gas-bearings, as they are used for gymbal bearings. We can distinguish thrust bearings from journal bearings, according to the supporting force lying in the direction of the axis or perpendicularly to it.
