Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL)-Antioxidant Biflavonoids from Garcinia madruno [PDF]
Six biflavonoids were isolated from G. madruno, one of which, 7''-O-(6''''-acetyl)-glucoside of morelloflavone, is a new compound identified on the basis of 1D, 2D NMR (HMQC and HMBC) spectroscopic methods and chemical ...

Natural Biflavonoids Modulate Macrophage–Oxidized LDL Interaction In Vitro and Promote Atheroprotection In Vivo [PDF]
The accumulation of oxidized ApoB-100-containing lipoproteins in the vascular intima and its subsequent recognition by macrophages results in foam cell formation and inflammation, key events during atherosclerosis development.

Chemical constituents and antioxidant activity of Garcinia madruno (Kunth) Hammel
Abstract Leaves, epicarp and seeds of Garcinia madruno (Kunth) Hammel were extracted by percolation using consecutively n-hexane, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, and methanol until exhaustion. Then, fractions were screened for their phenolic content (Folin-Ciocalteu method) and antioxidant properties (DPPH, ABTS, FRAP methods).

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that is pathologically characterized by the deposition of β-amyloid (βA) peptides in senile plaques and neurofibrillary tangles in the brain. Flavonoids have recently been used to prevent and treat a variety of neurodegenerative diseases, but little is known about bioflavonoids.

Large differences in leaf cuticle conductance and its temperature response among 24 tropical tree species from across a rainfall gradient. [PDF]
Summary More frequent droughts and rising temperatures pose serious threats to tropical forests. When stomata are closed under dry and hot conditions, plants lose water through leaf cuticles, but little is known about cuticle conductance (gmin) of tropical trees, how it varies among species and environments, and how it is affected by temperature.
