DETERMINATION OF OXYGEN UTILIZATION IN FERMENTATIONS BY GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY

Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1962
Dissolved oxygen in fermenting media is determined by withdrawing a sample using a hypodermic syringe containing a germicide. Gases are extracted from the sample under vacuum and analyzed by gas chromatography. Oxygen utilization is estimated by analysis of the exit gases using a similar analytical technique.

Bioreactor design for synthesis gas fermentations

Fuel, 1991
Abstract Bacterial cultures have been isolated for the conversion of synthesis gas (CO, H2 and CO2) into ethanol or methane. These heterogeneous reactions require the transport of substrate through the gas phase, across the interface into the liquid phase, and to the solid micro-organisms. The reactions are generally mass transfer limited due to very

Automatic gas meter for laboratory fermenters

Biotechnology Techniques, 1995
A versatile, cheap and automated system is designed for the measurement of small gas flows produced in laboratory-scale fermentation processes. An automatic sampling device for programmed times is linked to the flow meter. The displacement of a liquid by the gas being measured is the principle on which both the meter and the sampling device are based ...

Membrane gas sensors for fermentation monitoring

Journal of Fermentation Technology, 1987
Abstract Results from studies of membrane gas sensors are presented to show their general applicability to fermentation monitoring of volatiles, such as alcohols, organic acids, and aldehydes under various process and reactor conditions. Mainly the silicone tubing methods is described, with examples from ethanolic fermentation.

Controlled gas environments in industrial fermentations

Enzyme and Microbial Technology, 1980
Abstract The gas environment is of major importance in controlling aerobic fermentation processes for the manufacture of microbial products. Oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in gas-liquid equilibria affect productivity and energy consumption in such processes and appear to be implicated in the regulation of microbial metabolism.

Gas-Forming Citrate-Fermentation by Lactococci

Dairy industry
In milk processing, effective microbiological control depends on the correct choice of lactic acid bacteria in the microflora of bacterial starters. However, polyspecific starter consortia of acid-forming and aroma-forming lactococci still have no distinct criteria.
