Study of the Integrated Product Recovery by Gas Stripping for the Abe Fermentation with a Fed-batch Fermenter

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2019
Because of the growing demand for renewable fuels, the production of butanol through acetone-butanol-ethanol (ABE) fermentation of lignocellulosic biomasses has been recently attracting an increasing research interest. The major limit for an industrial-scale production of bio-butanol is the high separation cost, due to the presence of other fermentation

Nanocellulose Alleviates Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy via Gut Microbiota‐Mediated Bile Acid Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nanocellulose, derived from microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) through sulfuric acid hydrolysis or mechanical grinding to produce CNC or CNF, was tested in a rat ICP model. Particularly, CNF improved gut microbiota composition, reduced secondary bile acid metabolism, and restored bile acid homeostasis through modulation of the gut–liver axis.

Gas Fermentation for Commercial Biofuels Production

open access: yes, 2013
With diminishing global reserves of crude oil and increasing demand, especially from developing countries, the pressure on oil supply will grow. Although the 2007-2010 fi‐ nancial crisis brought down the price of crude oil (per barrel) from a record peak of US $145 in July 2008, factors such as recovering global economies and political instability in ...

Effects of moderately elevated pressure on gas fermentation processes

open access: yesBioresource Technology, 2019
Industrial biotechnology has a potential to tackle harmful CO2 emissions and turn CO2 into a valuable commodity. However, a major technical obstacle in gas fermentations is the limited gas mass transfer rate. Increasing system pressure is a way to increase the driving force for mass transfer. This review presents critical aspects of gas fermentation at

Disruption of Treg Homeostasis in Rheumatoid Arthritis via Ferroptosis‐Mediated ETC Collapse and TXK‐STAT3/PLCγ1 Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In rheumatoid arthritis, synovial Tregs accumulate but are functionally impaired due to iron overload‐induced ferroptosis. This triggers mitochondrial dysfunction and TXK tyrosine kinase‐mediated signaling, leading to Treg destabilization and inflammation.

Scaling up Trickle Bed Reactor for Gas Fermentation Technology: The Effect of Temperature and Reactor Characteristics on Mass Transfer

open access: yesFermentation
The increasing demand for efficient and sustainable industrial processes has accelerated research into green alternatives. Gas fermentation in a trickle bed reactor is a promising technology; however, optimal scaling up is still challenging.

Tailored Porous Bimetallic Nanozyme Platform for Full‐Cycle Therapeutics of Intestinal Ischemia/Reperfusion

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Intestinal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury presents a biphasic pathology: an acute oxidative‐inflammatory phase leading to organ failure, and a recovery phase marked by mucosal dysfunction and bacterial translocation. The developed MPB@TA‐Cu‐Ma nanocomposite functions as a dual‐phase therapeutic platform with significant efficacy. It rapidly

A Chirality‐Converted Bacteriolytic Dodecapeptide Regulates Vibrio‐Induced Polymicrobial Infection and Ameliorates Invasion‐Associated Gut Microbiota Disequilibrium

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Multidrug‐resistant Vibrio infections are rising rapidly and threaten coastal populations worldwide. This study introduces D‐zp37, a chirality‐engineered antimicrobial peptide with exceptional potency against resistant Vibrio species. D‐zp37 kills planktonic cells, blocks mixed‐species biofilms, disrupts essential bacterial stress responses, and shows ...

Low electric current in a bioelectrochemical system facilitates ethanol production from CO using CO-enriched mixed culture

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
Fossil resources must be replaced by renewable resources in production systems to mitigate green-house gas emissions and combat climate change. Electro-fermentation utilizes a bioelectrochemical system (BES) to valorize industrial and municipal waste ...

Streptavidins Coordinate Biotin Sequestration and Self‐Resistance Within a Biotin‐Pathway Antibiotic Network

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A conserved genomic region between two streptavidin genes in Streptomyces packages biosynthetic gene clusters for diverse biotin‐pathway antibiotics: acidomycin, stravidin, the new non‐proteinogenic amino acid ANDA, and the new BioA inhibitor α‐methyl‐KAPA.
