Evolution of the gasdermin family and pyroptosis
Developmental & Comparative Immunology, 2023Gasdermins have been identified as playing a prominent role in the innate immune response as the executors of a specific type of cell death called pyroptosis. Specific proteolytic cleavage of gasdermins generates an N-terminal that oligomerizes and forms pores in the cell membrane.

Gasdermin D opens the way for NETs [PDF]
Gasdermin D is a pore-forming protein that can cause pyroptosis, a form of inflammatory cell death. New research indicates that the pores generated by gasdermin D can also promote the formation of neutrophil extracellular traps, potentially opening new therapeutic avenues for the treatment of inflammatory diseases.

Pyroptosis, gasdermins and allergic diseases
AllergyAbstractPyroptosis is an inflammatory form of programmed cell death that is distinct from necrosis and apoptosis. Pyroptosis is primarily mediated by the gasdermin family of proteins (GSDMA‐E and PVJK), which, when activated by proteolytic cleavage, form pores in the plasma membrane, leading to cell death.

Gasdermins in pyroptosis, inflammation, and cancer
Trends in Molecular MedicinePyroptosis is a type of programmed inflammatory cell death characterized by balloon-like swelling, membrane rupture, and the release of inflammatory cytokines and danger signals. Pyroptosis is directly triggered by activated gasdermins (GSDMs) which bind to membrane phospholipids, oligomerize, and form pores in cell membranes.
