Gastrin: a review

Current Medical Research and Opinion, 1974
SummaryDespite isolation in pure form, full chemical characterisation, synthetic production and sophisticated assay technique, the foregut hormone gastrin is probably still as great an enigma today as regards its role in disease as it was when Edkins first postulated its existence nearly 70 years ago.The authors review the recent work on the hormone ...

Radioimmunoassay of Gastrin: Specificity of Gastrin Antisera

Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology, 1969
Antisera for use in a gastrin radioimmunoassay have been prepared in two ways and their specificity compared. Antibodies to porcine antral gastrin were found to be specific for the N-terminal portion of the molecule; there was no cross-reaction with pentagastrin or pancreozymin.

Antral Gastrin Cells and Serum Gastrin in Achlorhydria

Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology, 1977
Forty-five patients with achlorhydria due to severe atrophic corpus gastritis or gastric atrophy were studied by determination of serum gastrin, histological examination of multiple biopsy from the antrum, and quantitation of gastrin cells revealed by an indirect immunofluorescence technique.

THE HETEROGENEITY OF GASTRIN, WITH REFERENCE TO CONVERSION OF GASTRIN‐17

Clinical Endocrinology, 1976
SUMMARYHigh‐resolution gel chromatography monitored by a sensitive radioimmunoassay for gastrin has disclosed that gastrin circulates in twenty different components. Since the assay is specific for the biological active sequence of gastrin (‐Trp‐Met‐Asp‐PheNH2), we conclude that all the twenty circulating molecular forms of gastrin encountered in this ...
