Spin to orbital angular momentum transfer in frequency up-conversion

open access: yesNanophotonics, 2021
We demonstrate the spin to orbital angular momentum transfer in frequency upconversion with structured light beams. A vector vortex is coupled to a circularly polarized Gaussian beam in noncollinear second harmonic generation under type-II phase match ...

On the Lightweight Potential of Laser Additive Manufactured NiTi Triply Periodic Minimal Sheet Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the lightweight potential of laser additive‐manufactured NiTi triply periodic minimal surface sheet lattices. It systematically investigates the effects of relative density and unit cell size on surface quality, deformation recovery, compression behavior, and energy absorption.

Development of an adaptive laser beam shaper

open access: yes, 2022
Paper 1051819, 7 S.The intensity distribution of a laser beam has a high impact on laser processing applications. In many applications, the emitted light of a laser beam source is transformed from a Gaussian intensity distribution into other intensity ...

Prediction of Surface Topography Parameters in Direct Laser Interference Patterning of Stainless Steel Using Infrared Monitoring and Convolutional Neural Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents an infrared monitoring approach for direct laser interference patterning (DLIP) combined with a convolutional neural network (CNN). Thermal emission data captured during structuring are used to predict surface topography parameters.

Spin-orbit interaction in quasi-monochromatic singular beams

open access: yesКомпьютерная оптика
It is shown that the magnitude of the spin-orbit coupling is the energy efficiency of energy transfer between orthogonally polarized beam components. The energy efficiency changes as the Gaussian beam propagates through the anisotropic crystal.

Transverse beam tails due to inelastic scattering

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2000
Non-Gaussian beam tails producing low beam lifetimes and background to the experimental detectors can be a serious performance limitation in colliding beam facilities. We describe simulations and measurements of non-Gaussian beam tails performed on the e^

Beam intensity and spectral coherence of Hermite-cosine-Gaussian rectangular multi-Gaussian correlated Schell-model beam in oceanic turbulence

open access: yesHeliyon, 2023
The beam spreading and evolution behavior of a partially coherent, Hermite-cosine-Gaussian (HcosG) rectangular multi-Gaussian correlated Schell-model beam propagating in oceanic turbulence is studied. Analytical expressions for the cross-spectral density

Optical Binding Phenomena: Observations and Mechanisms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Novel results on the optical binding of optically-trapped micro-particles are presented. A sophisticated Mie scattering model is developed, capable of performing time-evolution simulations of a multi-particle system. This is used to analyse and interpret
