Gaussian beam quantum radar protocol

open access: yes, 2023
We present an entangled quantum radar protocol. It consists in scanning the sky with a thin Gaussian beam and measuring the travel time of the radiation reflected from the target, as in conventional radars.

An Experimental High‐Throughput Approach for the Screening of Hard Magnet Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An entire workflow for the high‐throughput characterization and analysis of compositionally graded magnetic films is presented. Characterization protocols, data management tools and data analysis approaches are illustrated with test case Sm(Fe, V)12 based films.

Higher order mode beams mitigate halos in high intensity proton linacs

open access: yesPhysical Review Accelerators and Beams, 2017
High intensity proton linacs (HIPLs) for applications such as Accelerator Driven Reactor Systems (ADRS) have serious beam dynamics issues related to beam halo formation.

Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

Beam shaping using Gaussian beam modes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A beam shaping method is presented where a diffractive optical element (DOE) is designed by optimizing the complex mode coefficient weights of a set of Gaussian beam modes.

Gaussian beams diffracting in time [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2017
We show how to transform the mathematical expression of any monochromatic paraxial light beam into the expression of a pulsed beam whose diffraction is switched from the axial direction to its temporal structure. We exemplify this transformation with time-diffracting Gaussian beams. The conditions for the obtained diffraction-free wave to be physically

Inverse Identification of Energy‐Dependent Laser Absorptivity in NiTi Laser Powder‐Bed Fusion via Calibrated Melt Pool Simulation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A combined experimental–computational framework identifies energy‐dependent laser absorptivity for NiTi in laser powder‐bed fusion, applicable to conduction and transition modes. Single‐track experiments and thermofluid smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulations are coupled through inverse analysis of melt pool geometry.

Gaussian beam summation method vs. Gaussian beam launching in high-frequency RCS of complex radar targets

open access: yes, 2016
International audienceThe problem of Gaussian beam propagation is of significant interest for many physical disciplines, including optics, geophysics, and acoustics. Individual Gaussian beams are asymptotic solutions of Helmholtz's equation.

The influence of beam delivery uncertainty on dose uniformity and penumbra for pencil beam scanning in carbon-ion radiotherapy.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
The dose uniformity and penumbra in the treatment field are important factors in radiotherapy, which affects the outcomes of radiotherapy. In this study, the integrated depth-dose-distributions (IDDDs) of 190 MeV/u and 260 MeV/u carbon beams in the ...
