The Inherited Crustal Structure and Lithospheric Thermal Field Beneath the Sea of Marmara (NW Türkiye): Observations From 3D Gravity Modeling and Seismic Tomography Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 129, Issue 12, December 2024.
Abstract The North Anatolian Fault (NAF) extends for over 1,000 km across Türkiye and poses significant seismic hazard in the region. The Main Marmara Fault (MMF) segment of the NAF in the Sea of Marmara (NW Türkiye), exhibits along‐strike segmentation in its interseismic strain accumulation. Constraining the lithospheric configuration below the MMF is

Lateral variations in the signature of earthquake‐generated deposits in Lake Iznik, NW Turkey

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 10, Issue 5, Page 470-495, November 2024.
This study aims to reveal the lateral variations in earthquake‐generated event deposits throughout Lake Iznik, a large lake on the middle strand of the North Anatolian Fault (NW Turkey). Based on stratigraphic, sedimentological and geochemical analyses of 14 sediment cores from two subbasins across the lake, five different types of event deposits (T1 ...

Aromatization of olive oil with ginger and turmeric powder or extracts by the co‐processing and maceration methods

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Lipid Science and Technology, Volume 126, Issue 9, September 2024.
Graphical Abstract: Olive oil was aromatized by ginger and turmeric powders or extracts. The spices were incorporated at kneading stage (co‐processing) or by infusion (maceration). Maceration offered advantages over co‐processing in terms of oil quality indices and oxidative stability.

Production and characterisation of microfluidized olive powder

open access: yesInternational Journal of Food Science &Technology, Volume 59, Issue 7, Page 4907-4920, July 2024.
Microfluidization technique was used for olives to change the cell wall structure and decrease the size of oil droplets and the effect of olive type on the physicochemical properties of green, black and raw olives were investigated. Summary Microfluidization has been gaining popularity as a size reduction process in recent years.

Inoculated fermentation of cv. Conservolea natural black olives with multifunctional starter cultures in reduced‐sodium brines

open access: yesInternational Journal of Food Science &Technology, Volume 59, Issue 6, Page 4093-4108, June 2024.
Natural black olives were fermented with LAB starter cultures in reduced‐sodium brine. The selected LAB cultures were L. pentosus and L. plantarum with probiotic potential. Results revealed dominance of LAB followed by yeasts and absence of enterobacteria. The recovery rate of L. pentosus was 80% in control and reduced‐sodium brines. The recovery rates

Distribution and diversity of elasmobranchs in the Sea of Marmara: A 2023 status report

open access: yesAquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems, Volume 34, Issue 3, March 2024.
Abstract Elasmobranchs, encompassing an array of sharks and rays, confront a threat of extinction on a global scale. The Sea of Marmara (SoM) stands out as a critical refuge for these endangered species. This study harnesses data derived from comprehensive trawl surveys, representing the first area‐based evaluation of the elasmobranchs inhabiting the ...
