A hypothesis on the action of chromosomal genes

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1984
According to the analysis of the chromosomal genes which act in development, we advance a model of gene action in development. In this model, the development is regarded as the programming action of different gene groups. The action of each and every gene group will activate the next gene group and make a self-inhibition.

Gene Action

2000
Abstract As a college student, Werner Maas took a course in genetics in 1941 and wondered why so little was said about the biochemical action of genes in controlling the specific function of an organism. Just at that time, biochemists and geneticists began to investigate jointly the basis of gene action, especially in microorganisms ...

Gene Structure and Gene Action

1955
During the past several years there have been developments that have profoundly changed current thinking about the structure, reproduction, mutation and function of genes. It is the author’s purpose to summarize some of these without systematically reviewing all recent literature.

Obesity as a Pleiotropic Effect of Gene Action

The Journal of Nutrition, 1997
Obesity, an easily detected and quantifiable phenotypic endpoint, is often considered, colloquially, as a disease. However, the study of obesity in rodents suggests that it is merely a convenient indicator of diverse underlying metabolic and physiologic dysregulations, rather than a disease entity in itself.

Function: Gene Action

1971
This review is intended to document some important trends in this field rather than to give a complete survey of the articles which are flooding the literature. The examples are chosen sometimes quite arbitrarily with the only goal being to document certain concepts.

Carcinogens, Enzyme Induction, and Gene Action

1967
Publisher Summary This chapter reviews the effects of polycyclic hydrocarbons and drugs on certain enzyme activities, along with a discussion on carcinogenesis and gene action. The term “enzyme induction” is used to describe the process that increases the rate of synthesis of a specific enzyme relative to its rate of synthesis in the uninduced ...

The physiology of gene action

1955
The attributes of a gene are several. They include self-duplication, physiological action, crossing-over, breakage and rearrangement and lastly mutation. Before considering the action of the gene, we must consider its mode of organization with respect to these various properties, which need not be perfectly correlated.
