Subtype-associated differences in HIV-1 reverse transcription affect the viral replication

open access: yesRetrovirology, 2010
Background The impact of the products of the pol gene, specifically, reverse transcriptase (RT) on HIV-1 replication, evolution, and acquisition of drug resistance has been thoroughly characterized for subtype B.

A new role for clathrin adaptor proteins 1 and 3 in lipoplex trafficking [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Intracellular protein trafficking through secretory and endocytic pathways depends on the function of adaptor proteins that bind motifs on cargo proteins.

Identification and characterisation of calcitonin receptor isoforms expressed in glioblastoma derived glioma stem and U‐87 MG cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Glioblastoma cells express calcitonin receptor variants (CT receptor isoforms) that may help them survive stress. Using qPCR, transcript‐specific long‐read nanopore sequencing, immunofluorescence co‐localisation and comparative sequence analysis, this study identifies a novel alternatively spliced CALCR transcript that encodes the CTb receptor isoform ...

3D Bioprinted Glioblastoma Multiforme Models: How the Extracellular Matrix Glycosignature Influences Drug Response

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Aberrant glycosylation in the glioblastoma tumor microenvironment drives therapeutic resistance. Here, a 3D bioprinted model was engineered by incorporating α‐NeuNAc‐(2→3)‐β‐D‐Gal‐ and chondroitin sulfate. Combined multiplex immunofluorescence and synchrotron‐based nanoCT analysis revealed that glycan‐matrix interactions dictate specific drug‐escape ...

Rous sarcoma virus expression in Saccharomyces cerevisiae: processing and membrane targeting of the gag gene product

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 1990
In avian cells, the product of the gag gene of Rous sarcoma virus, Pr76gag, has been shown to be targeted to the plasma membrane, to form virus particles, and then to be processed into mature viral gag proteins. To explore how these phenomena may be dependent upon cellular (host) factors, we expressed the Rous sarcoma virus gag gene in a lower ...

Protease mediated maturation of HIV: Inhibitors of protease and the maturation process [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Protease-mediated maturation of HIV-1 virus particles is essential for virus infectivity. Maturation occurs concomitant with immature virus particle release and is mediated by the viral protease (PR), which sequentially cleaves the Gag and Gag-Pol ...

Functional Differentiation of Type II and Type I Collagen Articular Models in Synovial Fluid Film Formation and Recombinant Equine Lubricin Retention

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Collagen II coatings support the formation of synovial fluid nanofilms, while collagen I coatings do not. Both bind recombinant equine lubricin similarly. These findings may help explain articular cartilage surface joint dysfunction, inform biomaterial design for synovial joint repair, and expand on lubricin‐based osteoarthritis therapies.

A comprehensive analysis of the naturally occurring polymorphisms in HIV-1 Vpr: Potential impact on CTL epitopes

open access: yesVirology Journal, 2008
The enormous genetic variability reported in HIV-1 has posed problems in the treatment of infected individuals. This is evident in the form of HIV-1 resistant to antiviral agents, neutralizing antibodies and cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) involving ...

Gag-H protein expression with anti-Gag-H clone 14H11G1.

open access: yes, 2016
Overlay of histograms obtained by flow cytometric analyses of 11 CRC cell lines with no primary antibody (filled light grey surface), irrelevant antibody (anti-His; 2G2B3; grey line) and anti-Gag-H antibody (clone 14H11G1; black line) are presented in ...
