Biomimetic Core–Shell Liposome Nanoparticles Deplete Lipoproteins and Enhance the Purity of Extracellular Vesicles from Human Blood

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Lipoprotein‐mimicking nanoparticles (SL‐NPs), comprising Fe3O4@SiO2 cores coated with liposomal bilayers, selectively capture lipoproteins through protein corona formation. The resulting SL‐NP‐lipoprotein complexes can be removed by low‐speed centrifugation, thereby enhancing the purity of small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) isolated from human serum ...

A Single-Nucleotide Synonymous Mutation in the gag Gene Controlling Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 Virion Production [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 2007
ABSTRACT Viral factors as well as host ones play major roles in the disease progression of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection. We have examined cytotoxic T-lymphocyte activity and HIV-1 DNA PCR results of 312 high-risk seronegative drug users in northern Thailand and identified four seronegative cases positive ...

Dynamic Loading Regulates Meniscus‐Like Matrix Production in Human Mesenchymal Stromal Cell‐Seeded PET Scaffolds

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Dynamic compression enhances mesenchymal stromal cell proliferation in nonwoven PET scaffolds under chondrogenic differentiation conditions and triggers mechanosensitive transcriptional programs associated with extracellular matrix remodeling. These findings highlight the potential of mechanically stimulated PET scaffolds as a promising platform for ...

Gag-ABCE1 colocalization in situ upon provirus expression.

open access: yes, 2018
(A) PLA was used to detect regions in which Gag is within 40 nm from ABCE1 in situ, with concurrent αGag IF for quantification of intracellular Gag levels. An experimental schematic for PLA methods is shown.

A Pentaradial and Bilateral Combined Photoreception System in the Sea Cucumber is Mediated by a Blue Light‐Sensitive R‐Opsin

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The sea cucumber Holothuria leucospilota detects blue and adjacent wavelengths of light via an r‐opsin with a maximum absorption at 459 nm. In the oral tentacles, papillae, and tube feet, distinct light‐sensing structures with specialized morphologies are formed, constituting a unique pentaradial and bilateral combined photoreception system.

The ts110 Moloney Mouse Sarcoma Virus System: gag-mos Gene Products and Cellular Transformation

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 1985
Moloney murine sarcoma virus (Mo-MuSV) was one of the most widely studied mammalian retroviruses because it had acquired the cellular sequence called mos (Van Beveren et al., 1981a; Frankel & Fischinger, 1976), one of the first oncogenes identified. But difficulties with the low level of expression of the viral mos (v-mos) protein and apparent lack of ...

Characterization of mouse mammary tumor virus gag-pro gene products and the ribosomal frameshift site by protein sequencing. [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1987
The synthesis of retroviral polyproteins that are the translational products of the genome-size mRNA is initiated in the upstream gag gene. The synthesis of the products of the protease gene (pro) and polymerase gene (pol) is regulated by translational suppression (in-frame read-through or frameshift) of termination codons as a strategy developed for ...

DNA fusion gene vaccination mobilizes effective anti-leukemic cytotoxic T lymphocytes from a tolerized repertoire [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The majority of known human tumor-associated antigens derive from non-mutated self proteins. T cell tolerance, essential to prevent autoimmunity, must therefore be cautiously circumvented to generate cytotoxic T cell responses against these targets.

Combating Inflammation and Promoting Anabolism in Osteoarthritic Cartilage Defect With an MMP13‐Sensing Dual‐Drug Scaffold

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Osteoarthritis (OA) is a widespread degenerative joint condition marked by progressive cartilage breakdown, and a chronic inflammatory microenvironment, where conventional therapies largely fail to halt disease progression. To address this unmet need, an intra‐articularly implantable, disease‐responsive scaffold was developed for combinatorial

Genome-wide changes in expression profile of murine endogenous retroviruses (MuERVs) in distant organs after burn injury

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2007
Background Previous studies have shown that burn-elicited stress signals alter expression of certain murine endogenous retroviruses (MuERVs) in distant organs of mice.
