Bovine Immunodeficiency VirustatGene: Cloning of Two Distinct cDNAs and Identification, Characterization, and Immunolocalization of thetatGene Products

open access: yesVirology, 1997
cDNAs encoding the bovine immunodeficiency virus (BIV) transactivator gene (tat) were cloned from virally infected cells and characterized. BIV expresses two distinct tat mRNAs composed of three exons that are derived by alternative splicing. The BIV tat mRNA splice variants encode Tat proteins of 103 (Tat103) and 108 (Tat108) amino acids.

Therapeutic targets for HIV-1 infection in the host proteome

open access: yesRetrovirology, 2005
Background Despite the success of HAART, patients often stop treatment due to the inception of side effects. Furthermore, viral resistance often develops, making one or more of the drugs ineffective.

HIV Silencing and Inducibility Are Heterogeneous and Are Affected by Factors Intrinsic to the Virus

open access: yesmBio, 2019
Transcriptionally silent HIV proviruses form the major obstacle to eradicating HIV. Many studies of HIV latency have focused on the cellular mechanisms that maintain silencing of proviral DNA.

Role of cyclic AMP in the control of cell-specific gene expression [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Genes have to be expressed in specific cell types at appropriate times of development dependent on external signals. cAMP signaling occurs in all cells, thus raising the question of how this signal transduction pattern is integrated into mechanisms ...

Filtering "genic" open reading frames from genomic DNA samples for advanced annotation

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2011
Background In order to carry out experimental gene annotation, DNA encoding open reading frames (ORFs) derived from real genes (termed "genic") in the correct frame is required.

Synthesis and bioactivity of erythro-nordihydroguaiaretic acid, threo-(–)-saururenin and their analogues [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Serbian Chemical Society, 2010
Full details of the total syntheses of erythro-nordihydroguaiaretic acid, threo-(–)-saururenin and their analogues are presented. The syntheses were based on a unified synthetic strategy involving the Stobbe reaction, alkylation to construct the skeleton

Human herpesvirus-8 (Kaposi’s sarcoma-associated herpesvirus) ORF50 interacts synergistically with the tat gene product in transactivating the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 LTR

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 2001
Human herpesvirus-8 (HHV-8) is a lymphotropic virus associated with several AIDS-related neoplasms. Two ORFs play a critical role in the regulation of virus replication: ORF50, encoding an immediate-early transcriptional activator, and ORF57, encoding a post-transcriptional regulator.

Lentiviral vector-mediated stable expression of sTNFR-Fc in human macrophage and neuronal cells as a potential therapy for neuroAIDS

open access: yesJournal of Neuroinflammation, 2011
Background Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection frequently causes neurologic disease, which is the result of viral replication and activation of macrophages and microglia in the CNS, and subsequent secretion of high levels of neurotoxic ...

The Saccharomyces cerevisiae SEC14 Gene Encodes a Cytosolic Factor That Is Required for Transport of Secretory Proteins from the Yeast Golgi Complex [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
We have obtained and characterized a genomic clone of SEC14, a Saccharomyces cerevisiae gene whose product is required for export of yeast secretory proteins from the Golgi complex.
