A lncRNA-SWI/SNF complex crosstalk controls transcriptional activation at specific promoter regions
SWI/SNF complexes regulate chromatin architecture and gene expression. Here the authors report the RNA interactome of SMARCB1-containing SWI/SNF complexes, showing the function of SMARCB1-interacting long noncoding RNA SWINGN in transcriptional ...

The biological functions of short open reading frame (sORF)‐encoded micropeptides remain largely unknown. Here, we report that LINC00998, a previously annotated lncRNA, was upregulated in multiple cancer types and the sORF on LINC00998 encoded a ...

An enhanced CRISPR repressor for targeted mammalian gene regulation. [PDF]
The RNA-guided endonuclease Cas9 can be converted into a programmable transcriptional repressor, but inefficiencies in target-gene silencing have limited its utility.

A working model for cytoplasmic assembly of H/ACA snoRNPs
Dyskerin is the component of nuclear H/ACA ribonucleoproteins (RNPs) endowed with pseudouridine synthase catalytic activity. Two isoforms of human dyskerin have been characterized: the abundant Iso1, mainly nuclear, and the shorter Iso3, mainly cytoplasmic but occasionally imported into nuclei.

Genetic Variation in Human Gene Regulatory Factors Uncovers Regulatory Roles in Local Adaptation and Disease [PDF]
Differences in gene regulation have been suggested to play essential roles in the evolution of phenotypic changes. Although DNA changes in cis-regulatory elements affect only the regulation of its corresponding gene, variations in gene regulatory factors

Mutations in the C9orf72 gene represent the most common genetic cause of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a fatal neurodegenerative disease. Using patient‐derived neurons and C. elegans models, we find that the nucleoporin Nup107 is dysregulated in C9orf72‐associated ALS. Conversely, reducing Nup107 levels mitigates disease‐related changes.

Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) confers several traits to cancer cells that are required for malignant progression. Here, we report that miR-27b-3p-mediated silencing of the single-strand RNA binding protein KHSRP is required for transforming ...

Spatial clustering and common regulatory elements correlate with coordinated gene expression [PDF]
Many cellular responses to surrounding cues require temporally concerted transcriptional regulation of multiple genes. In prokaryotic cells, a single-input-module motif with one transcription factor regulating multiple target genes can generate ...

Novel and unscrutinized immune entities of the zebrafish gut
Understudied cells of the zebrafish immune system include bona fide immune cells and epithelial (‐derived) cells with immune functions. Research focusing on zebrafish cells which demonstrate similarities to mammalian immune cell counterparts may help us understand the pathologies in which they are implicated. Currently available and advanced tools make

Associative memory in gene regulation networks
The pattern of gene expression in the phenotype of an organism is determined in part by the dynamical attractors of the organism’s gene regulation network.
