Selecting maximally informative genes
Computers & Chemical Engineering, 2005Microarray experiments are emerging as one of the main driving forces in modern biology. By allowing the simultaneous monitoring of the expression of the entire genome for a given organism, array experiments provide tremendous insight into the fundamental biological processes that translate genetic information.

Statistical Selection of Maintenance Genes for Normalization of Gene Expressions
Statistical Applications in Genetics and Molecular Biology, 2006Maintenance genes can be used for normalization in the comparison of gene expressions. Even though the absolute expression levels of maintenance genes may vary considerably among different tissues or cells, a set of maintenance genes may provide suitable normalization if their expression levels are relatively constant in the specific tissues or cells ...

Selection of reference genes for gene expression studies in astrocytomas
Analytical Biochemistry, 2011This study was aimed to test a panel of six housekeeping genes (GAPDH, HPRT1, POLR2A, RPLP0, ACTB, and H3F) so as to identify and validate the most suitable reference genes for expression studies in astrocytomas. GAPDH was the most stable and HPRT1 was the least stable reference gene.

A model for gene selection and classification of gene expression data
Artificial Life and Robotics, 2007Gene expression data are expected to be of significant help in the development of efficient cancer diagnosis and classification platforms. One problem arising from these data is how to select a small subset of genes from thousands of genes and a few samples that are inherently noisy. This research aims to select a small subset of informative genes from

Selecting Few Genes for Microarray Gene Expression Classification
2010Due to the high number of gene expressions contained on microarray data, feature extraction techniques are usually applied before inducing classifiers. A common criterion to decide on the number of selected genes is minimizing the classifier error. However, considering the risk of overfitting due to the small sample size, and the fact that the number ...

Gene Selection Based on Supervised Vector Representation of Genes
2014Gene ranking is widely employed in gene selection. Most criteria adopt a single quantitative value to rank genes. To some degree, they hardly provide comprehensive discriminative information of genes. In this paper, the supervised vector representation is proposed.

An Ensemble Approach for Gene Selection in Gene Expression Data
2017Feature/Gene selection is a major research area in the study of gene expression data, generally dealing with classification tasks of diseases or subtype of diseases and identification of biomarkers related to a type of disease. In such a context, this paper proposes an ensemble approach of gene selection for classification tasks from gene expression ...

Gene Expression and Selection of Major Genes
2016Genes are examined in detail that proved important for establishing the laws of inheritance, domestication and adaptation of crops to new environments, selection of colour and shape, the green revolution and for herbicide tolerance. They are all simply inherited genes with phenotypes that were easy to recognize and select by farmers and plant breeders.

The gene as a unit of selection
1992Abstract Well-reasoned treatments of Darwinism for wide audiences (e.g. Sober 1984; Lloyd 1988; Brandon 1990) have recently had the benefit of Dawkins’ (1976, 1982b) and Hull’s (1988) concepts of replicators and interactors. The concepts are general in scope, but replicators usually mean genes, and interactors the individual organisms ...
