Elucidation of the Aggregation Pathways of Helix–Turn–Helix Peptides: Stabilization at the Turn Region Is Critical for Fibril Formation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Aggregation of proteins to fiberlike aggregates often involves a transformation of native monomers to β-sheet-rich oligomers. This general observation underestimates the importance of α-helical segments in the aggregation cascade.

Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...

Beyond the binding site: the role of the β₂-β₃ loop and extra-domain structures in PDZ domains. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2012
A general paradigm to understand protein function is to look at properties of isolated well conserved domains, such as SH3 or PDZ domains. While common features of domain families are well understood, the role of subtle differences among members of these

Generation of multi-polarity helix transform over GF(3)

open access: yesIEICE Electronics Express, 2004
In this article, the new multi-polarity helix transform for ternary logic functions has been introduced. In addition, an extended dual polarity property that had been used to optimize Kronecker and quaternary Fixed-Polarity Reed-Muller (FPRM) expressions has been applied to generate efficiently the multi-polarity helix transform over GF(3).

Two Dimensional Window Exchange Umbrella Sampling for Transmembrane Helix Assembly [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The method of window exchange umbrella sampling molecular dynamics (WEUSMD) with a preoptimized parameter set was recently used to obtain the most probable conformations and the energetics of transmembrane (TM) helix assembly of a generic TM sequence ...

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

Sequence conservation of apolipoprotein A-I affords novel insights into HDL structure-function

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2011
We performed alignment of apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I) sequences from 31 species of animals. We found there is specific conservation of salt bridge-forming residues in the first 30 residues of apoA-I and general conservation of a variety of residue types ...

Die Funktion der Helix 8 für die Regulation des Bradykinin B2 Rezeptors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Upon activation the human bradykinin B2 receptor (B2R) acts as guanine nucleotide exchange factor for the G proteins Gq/11 and Gi. Thereafter, it gets phosphorylated by G protein-coupled receptor kinases (GRKs) and recruits beta-arrestins, which block ...

Culture, Embodiment and Genes: Unravelling the Triple Helix [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Much recent work stresses the role of embodiment and action in thought and reason, and celebrates the power of transmitted cultural and environmental structures to transform the problem-solving activity required of individual brains. By apparent contrast,

Interaction of HS1BP3 with cortactin modulates TKS5 localisation, cell secretion and cancer malignancy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Here, we demonstrate that HS1BP3 interacts with Cortactin through a proline‐rich region (PRR3.1) and show that this interaction, and HS1BP3 itself, promote cancer cell proliferation and invasion. Inhibition of this interaction leads to build‐up of TKS5 in multivesicular endosomes and altered secretion of CD63 and CD9, providing an explanation for the ...
