AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

Sequence conservation of apolipoprotein A-I affords novel insights into HDL structure-function

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2011
We performed alignment of apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I) sequences from 31 species of animals. We found there is specific conservation of salt bridge-forming residues in the first 30 residues of apoA-I and general conservation of a variety of residue types ...

Potential therapeutic targeting of BKCa channels in glioblastoma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes current insights into the role of BKCa and mitoBKCa channels in glioblastoma biology, their potential classification as oncochannels, and the emerging pharmacological strategies targeting these channels, emphasizing the translational challenges in developing BKCa‐directed therapies for glioblastoma treatment.

A generalized allosteric mechanism for cis-regulated cyclic nucleotide binding domains. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2008
Cyclic nucleotides (cAMP and cGMP) regulate multiple intracellular processes and are thus of a great general interest for molecular and structural biologists.

Helical buckling of Skyrme-Faddeev solitons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Solitons in the Skyrme-Faddeev model on R^2xS^1 are shown to undergo buckling transitions as the circumference of the S^1 is varied. These results support a recent conjecture that solitons in this field theory are well-described by a much simpler model ...

Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...

Structural and Biochemical Insights into the Peptidoglycan Hydrolase Domain of FlgJ from Salmonella typhimurium. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
FlgJ is a glycoside hydrolase (GH) enzyme belonging to the Carbohydrate Active enZyme (CAZy) family GH73. It facilitates passage of the bacterial flagellum through the peptidoglycan (PG) layer by cleaving the β-1,4 glycosidic bond between N ...

Insights into electron wind force by a helical dislocation reconfiguration

open access: yesiScience, 2023
Summary: Many efforts for decades have been made to explore electron wind force, produced by electric current itself under electropulsing treatment. However, the clear evidence of this force is hard to separate from Joule heating. Here we study a helical

Magnetic Structure and Magnetization of Helical Antiferromagnets in High Magnetic Fields Perpendicular to the Helix Axis at Zero Temperature

open access: yes, 2017
The zero-temperature angles of magnetic moments in a helix or sinusoidal fan confined to the xy plane, with respect to an in-plane magnetic field Hx applied perpendicular to the z axis of a helix or fan, are calculated for commensurate helices and fans ...

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.
