Inverse transformed encoding models – a solution to the problem of correlated trial-by-trial parameter estimates in fMRI decoding

open access: yesNeuroImage, 2020
Techniques of multivariate pattern analysis (MVPA) can be used to decode the discrete experimental condition or a continuous modulator variable from measured brain activity during a particular trial. In functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), trial-

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Estandarización de las tasas de captura en la pesquería de gamba (Haliporoides diomedeae) frente a la costa central de Chile, 2002-2008 Catch rate standardization for the fishery of royal red shrimp “gamba” (Haliporoides diomedeae) off the coast of central Chile, 2002-2008

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Aquatic Research, 2010
La gamba (Haliporoides diomedeae) es un crustáceo penaeidea, capturado desde el año 2002 como especie objetivo por la flota arrastrera de crustáceos que opera en la zona central de Chile (32º10’S-36º00’S).

GLMdenoise: a fast, automated technique for denoising task-based fMRI data

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2013
In task-based functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), researchers seek to measure fMRI signals related to a given task or condition. In many circumstances, measuring this signal of interest is limited by noise. In this study, we present GLMdenoise,

How to get the Blanchard-Kahn form from a general linear rational expectations model [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
In this paper, we prove that every linear model with rational expectations can be transformed by the means of an one-to-one mapping into another model which has one of the following properties: i) it is degenerated, ii) it is backward, ii) it has the ...

The Intrinsic Spin Hall Conductivity in a Generalized Rashba Model

open access: yes, 2005
We calculate the intrinsic spin Hall conductivity \sigma^{\mathrm{sH}} of a two-dimensional electron system within a generalized Rashba model, showing that it is, in general, finite and model-dependent. Considering arbitrary band dispersion, we find that

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Enhancing Performance of a Hybrid EEG-fNIRS System Using Channel Selection and Early Temporal Features

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2017
Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) techniques hold a great promise for neuroprosthetic applications. A desirable BCI system should be portable, minimally invasive, and feature high classification accuracy and efficiency.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.
