Modelling and calibration for cyclic soil-structure interface behaviour [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2019
The structural performance of many geotechnical systems (e.g. axially-loaded pile foundations), depends on the shearing resistance at the soil interface, which may govern the load bearing capacity of the foundation. Experimental investigations have shown

Dislocations and Cracks in Generalized Continua [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Dislocations play a key role in the understanding of many phenomena in solid state physics, materials science, crystallography and engineering. Dislocations are line defects producing distortions and self-stresses in an otherwise perfect crystal lattice.

On the planarity of Peano generalized continua: An extension of a theorem of S. Claytor

open access: yes, 1998
We extend a theorem of S. Claytor in order to characterize the Peano generalized continua which are embeddable into the 2-sphere. We also give a characterization of the Peano generalized continua which admit closed embeddings in the Euclidean ...

CISM courses and lectures on generalized continua

open access: yes, 2013
The need of generalized continua models is coming from practice. Complex material behavior sometimes cannot be presented by the classical Cauchy continua.

Pustular Psoriasis: The Dawn of a New Era

open access: yesActa Dermato-Venereologica, 2020
Pustular psoriasis is a clinically heterogeneous entity of different, orphan disease subtypes, among which the most clearly defined are generalized pustular psoriasis, palmoplantar psoriasis, and acrodermatitis continua of Hallopeau.

Irreducible continua and generalization of hereditarily unicoherent continua by means of membranes [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Australian Mathematical Society, 1965
In [2] we defined an irreducible B(J)-cartesian membrane, and used this to obtain a characterization of an n-sphere by generalizing the definition of simple closed curve given by Theorem 1.2 below. There B(J) is a class A(n) of (n−1)-spheres, but here it is a class of mutually homeomorphic continua.

Hyperspaces of Generalized Continua which Are Infinite Cylinders

open access: yes, 2019
We deal with an analogue of the cone = hyperspace property for generalized continua. Namely, we study the class Cyl of those generalized continua X for which the hyperspace C(X) is homeomorphic to the infinite cylinder X x ℝ≥ 0.

A Hahn-Mazurkiewicz Theorem for generalized Peano continua

open access: yes, 1998
S. Mazurkiewicz remarked after his proof of the celebrated HahnMazurkiewicz Theorem ([5]) that any generalized Peano continuum is the continuous image of the half-line 0; 1 but the converse does not hold.

A 3D pantographic metamaterial behaving as a mechanical shield: Experimental and numerical evidence

open access: yesMaterials & Design
Multilayer pantographic metamaterials, in short, pantographic blocks, have shown peculiar mechanical behavior, especially when their constitutive hinges are revolving (i.e., perfect) joints.
