Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

The Finite Element Method of High Degree of Accuracy for Boundary Value Problem with Singularity
Mathematical models of fracture physics and mechanics are boundary value problems for differential equations and systems of equations with a singularity.

Efforts made over the last three decades to understand the fracture behaviour of structural materials in elastic and elasto-plastic fracture mechanics are numerous, whereas investigations related to fracture behaviour of materials in thin sheets or general yielding fracture regimes are limited in number.

Building machine‐readable vocabularies for materials science is slow, expert‐driven work. This study benchmarks 13 large language models on two of its first steps: finding candidate terms in engineering articles and deciding where they belong in a class hierarchy.

A two‐dimensional multiscale finite element analysis framework was established for the first‐generation MoSiBTiC alloy, and the mechanical and fracture‐related parameters of the constituent phases were calibrated through experiments and simulations. The framework provides a basis for analyzing crack propagation behavior in its complex microstructure ...

Energetic criterion in general elastic-plastic fracture mechanics [PDF]
From the analyzing the equation of energy balance for cracked bodies during the crack growth the energetic criterion is formulated for general elastic-plastic fracture mechanics. The numerical procedure should be realized by using the slip model of polycrystalline plasticity and the experimental data.

Hydrogen‐Assisted Fracture of Iron‐Based Fe–Ni–Al Alloys
Principal relations and fracture mechanisms of single‐phase and precipitate‐strengthened Fe–Ni–Al alloys subjected to prior electrochemical hydrogen charging are identified. The mechanisms of hydrogen effect on strength and microhardness are discussed, including hydrogen‐induced increase in microhardness and the role of hydrogen in fracture behavior ...

Multi-parameter fracture mechanics
A mixed-mode geometry has been chosen to investigate a crack propagation using the multi-parameter fracture mechanics concept. The so-called Williams’ series expansion is used for the crack-tip stress field approximation.

Transducer Placement Option of Lamb Wave SHM System for Hotspot Damage Monitoring
In this paper, we investigated transducer placement strategies for detecting cracks in primary aircraft structures using ultrasonic Structural Health Monitoring (SHM). The approach developed is for an expected damage location based on fracture mechanics,
