The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

The Intersection between Chickering’s Theory and Generation Z Student of Color Activism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Student activism is an ever-developing trend on college campuses. The current generation, Generation Z, started college in 2013. Analyzing literature on student development and how it intersects with the student activist identity reveals what ...

The Evolution of the Intracluster Medium Metallicity in Sunyaev-Zel'dovich-Selected Galaxy Clusters at 0 < z < 1.5

open access: yes, 2016
We present the results of an X-ray spectral analysis of 153 galaxy clusters observed with the Chandra, XMM-Newton, and Suzaku space telescopes. These clusters, which span 0 < z < 1.5, were drawn from a larger, mass-selected sample of galaxy clusters ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Generation Z and “Quiet Quitting”: Rethinking onboarding in an era of employee disengagement

open access: yesMultidisciplinary Business Review
Why are Generation Z employees quiet quitting? A potential answer is related to Generation Z disen-gagement. Quiet quitting is troublesome for com-panies with growing numbers of young recruits checking out emotionally from work.

Constraining the dark energy models with H(z) data: an approach independent of $H_{0}$

open access: yes, 2018
We study the performance of the latest $H(z)$ data in constraining the cosmological parameters of different cosmological models, including that of Chevalier-Polarski-Linder $w_{0}w_{1}$ parametrization.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Neutrinos with a linear seesaw mechanism in a scenario of gauged B-L symmetry

open access: yes, 2014
We consider a mechanism for neutrino mass generation, based on a local B-L extension of the standard model, which becomes a linear seesaw regime for light neutrinos after spontaneous symmetry breaking.
