The characterization of MHC Class II genes of the Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus) : an investigation of mechanisms that shape genetic diversity in natural populations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Includes abstract.Includes bibliographical references (leaves 66-77).Genes within the Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) of vertebrates code for proteins that are involved in antigen recognition and activation of the adaptive immune response.

Nanotherapy for Neural Retinal Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nanotechnology enhances ophthalmic treatments by improving drug delivery and regenerating ocular tissues, combating vision loss from retinal diseases through innovative nano‐systems. This review outlines ocular anatomy, pathology, immune microenvironment, and barriers, detailing nanocarrier characteristics, classification, and preparation methods, and ...

Large scale transcriptional analysis of MHC class I haplotype diversity in sheep [PDF]

open access: yes
Domestic sheep (Ovis aries) have been an important component of livestock agricultural production for thousands of years. Preserving genetic diversity within livestock populations maintains a capacity to respond to changing environments and rapidly ...

Immune and Angiogenic Profiling of Mesenchymal Stem Cell Functions in a Subcutaneous Microenvironment for Allogeneic Islet Transplantation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
With emphasis on a diabetic state, this study highlights the role of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in enhancing vascularization and modulating immune responses within a subcutaneous platform for cell transplantation for type 1 diabetes (T1D). Comprehensive profiling of MSC‐induced angiogenic and immune responses, provides insight into the role of MSCs ...

Major Histocompatibility Class II Pathway Is Not Required for the Development of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in Mice

open access: yesInternational Journal of Endocrinology, 2013
Single-nucleotide polymorphisms within major histocompatibility class II (MHC II) genes have been associated with an increased risk of drug-induced liver injury.

Genetic resistance to nematode infection in Texel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Nematode infection is one of the major causes of disease in young sheep. Selective breeding of genetically nematode resistant sheep is an alternative method for controlling the nematode infection. This process could be simplified if loci that account for

A Novel Protein NAB1‐356 Encoded by circRNA circNAB1 Mitigates Atrial Fibrillation by Reducing Inflammation and Fibrosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The circRNA circNAB1 is downregulated in AF patient. Silencing circNAB1 promotes collagen deposition and inflammation, whereas overexpression reduces AF susceptibility. circNAB1 encodes the protein NAB1 356 that interacts with EGR1 to mitigate fibrosis and inflammation.

The Robust Kernel Association Test [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Testing the association between SNP effects and a response is a common task. Such tests are often carried out through kernel machine methods based on least squares, such as the Sequence Kernel Association Test (SKAT). However, these least squares procedures assume a normally distributed response, which is often violated. Other robust procedures such as

High Fat Low Carbohydrate Diet Is Linked to CNS Autoimmunity Protection

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mapping global epidemiological data to macronutrient supply reveals high carbohydrate, in contrast to high fat supply, associates with increased multiple sclerosis (MS) prevalence and incidence. This is confirmed in a mouse MS model, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), using isocaloric diets: a high carbohydrate diet aggravates, a high ...

From gene trees to species trees II: Species tree inference in the deep coalescence model [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
When gene copies are sampled from various species, the resulting gene tree might disagree with the containing species tree. The primary causes of gene tree and species tree discord include lineage sorting, horizontal gene transfer, and gene duplication and loss.
