Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Investigating the genetic imprint of long body length, high lean meat rate, high fertility and long gestation period in Danish Landrace pigs

open access: yesBMC Genomics
Background After long-term artificial selection and lineage mixing, the Danish Landrace pig (DLR), has developed characteristics such as a long body length, high lean meat rate, rapid growth rate, high litter size, and a longer gestation period, with an ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

UHPLC-MS/MS-Based Metabolomics Identifies Freshness Biomarkers and Temporal Spoilage Threshold in Refrigerated Goose Meat

open access: yesFoods
The dynamic metabolic landscape underlying goose meat quality deterioration during refrigerated storage remains incompletely elucidated. Here, ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS)-based widely targeted ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Pollen–pistil interactions in divergent wide crosses lead to spatial and temporal pre-fertilization reproductive barrier in flax (Linum usitatissimum L.)

open access: yesScientific Reports
Linseed, has been a source of natural fiber for textile industries since its domestication. However, despite being the potential source of trait reservoir, the use of Linum wild genetic resources for the improvement of economic traits are not exploited ...

Population connectivity among Dry Tortugas, Florida, and Caribbean populations of mutton snapper (Lutjanus analis), inferred from multiple microsatellite loci [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Determining patterns of population connectivity is critical to the evaluation of marine reserves as recruitment sources for harvested populations. Mutton snapper (Lutjanus analis) is a good test case because the last known major spawning aggregation in U.
