Genetic Diversity of Bartonella henselae in Human Infection Detected with Multispacer Typing

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2007
We applied multispacer typing (MST) by incorporating 9 variable intergenic spacers to Bartonella henselae DNA detected in lymph node biopsy specimens from 70 patients with cat-scratch disease (CSD), in cardiac valve specimens from 2 patients with ...

Stability of Nations and Genetic Diversity  [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper presents a model of nations where culturally heterogeneous agents vote on the optimal level of public spending. Larger nations benefit from increasing returns in the provision of public goods, but bear the costs of greater cultural ...

Genetic diversity in brackish-water environments as revealed by mitochondrial markers in three species with different ecological traits [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In the present study, the genetic diversity of brackish water environments was studied analysing three model species with different ecological traits by mean of mitochondrial genes sequences. In the first model species, Hediste diversicolor (O.F. Müller,

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Genetic heterogeneity in helminths — a reply

open access: yesParasitology, 1995
The previous paper in this issue Computer model of the maintenance and selection of genetic heterogeneity in polygamous helminths by Saul uses an individual-based computer simulation to explore aspects of the transmission and maintenance of genetic heterogeneity among polygamous intestinal helminths, both in the absence and in the presence of external ...

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Sparse whole-genome sequencing identifies two loci for major depressive disorder. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Major depressive disorder (MDD), one of the most frequently encountered forms of mental illness and a leading cause of disability worldwide, poses a major challenge to genetic analysis.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...
