Genomic Privacy Metrics: A Systematic Comparison [PDF]

open access: yes2015 IEEE Security and Privacy Workshops, 2015
The human genome uniquely identifies, and contains highly sensitive information about, individuals. This creates a high potential for misuse of genomic data (e.g., Genetic discrimination). This paper investigates how genomic privacy can be measured in scenarios where an adversary aims to infer a person's genome by constructing probability distributions

Genome Analysis and Physiological Characterization of Four Streptococcus thermophilus Strains Isolated From Chinese Traditional Fermented Milk

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
Streptococcus thermophilus plays important roles in the dairy industry and is widely used as a dairy starter in the production of fermented dairy products. The genomes of S.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Comparison of human (and other) genome browsers [PDF]

open access: yesHuman Genomics, 2006
The sequence of the human genome provides a scaffold on which numerous annotations, such the locations of genes, can be laid. Genome browsers have been created to allow the simultaneous display of multiple annotations within a graphical interface. In addition, they provide the ability to search for markers and sequences, to extract annotations for ...

Comparative analysis of the complete mitogenomes of Camellia sinensis var. sinensis and C. sinensis var. assamica provide insights into evolution and phylogeny relationship

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
IntroductionAmong cultivated tea plants (Camellia sinensis), only four mitogenomes for C. sinensis var. assamica (CSA) have been reported so far but none for C. sinensis var. sinensis (CSS).

Virulent Epidemic Pneumonia in Sheep Caused by the Human Pathogen Acinetobacter baumannii

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
The human pathogen Acinetobacter baumannii has emerged as a frequent cause of hospital-acquired infections, but infection of animals has rarely been observed.

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.
