micRocounter: Microsatellite Characterization in Genome Assemblies [PDF]
Abstract Microsatellites are repetitive DNA sequences usually found in non-coding regions of the genome. Their quantification and analysis have applications in fields from population genetics to evolutionary biology. As genome assemblies become commonplace, the need for software that can facilitate analyses has never been greater.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Specific loss of chromosomes 1, 2, 6, 10, 13, 17, and 21 in chromophobe renal cell carcinomas revealed by comparative genomic hybridization [PDF]
We analyzed 19 chromophobe renal cell carcinomas by means of comparative genomic hybridization. Two tumors revealed no numerical abnormalities. In the remaining 17 cases we found loss of entire chromosomes with underrepresentation of chromosome 1 ...
