Genotype variant associated with add-on memantine in bipolar II disorder [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Journal of Neuropsychopharmacology, 2013
Memantine is a non-competitive N-methyl-d-asparate (NMDA) receptor antagonist with a mood-stabilizing effect. We investigated whether using valproic acid (VPA) plus add-on memantine to treat bipolar II disorder (BP-II) is more effective than using VPA alone (VPA + Pbo).

Ethnic Differences in the Association Between SOD2 rs4880 and Hepatotoxicity in Pediatric Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia: A Report From the REDIAL Consortium

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Treatment‐associated hepatotoxicity (TAH) is a common complication of pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) treatment, but genetic risk factors remain poorly understood. We evaluated the SOD2 rs4880 variant in 544 children with ALL at Texas Children's Hospital. After adjusting for demographic and clinical covariates, the rs4880 C allele

Evaluation of the Abbott Real Time HCV genotype II assay for Hepatitis C virus genotyping.

open access: yesPakistan journal of medical sciences, 2015
The determination of HCV genotypes and subtypes is very important for the selection of antiviral therapy and epidemiological studies. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of Abbott Real Time HCV Genotype II assay in HCV genotyping of HCV infected patients in Kayseri, Turkey. One hundred patients with chronic hepatitis C admitted to our ...

Weekly variations in norovirus genogroup II genotypes in Japanese oysters

open access: yesInternational Journal of Food Microbiology, 2018
Increased levels of norovirus contamination in oysters were reportedly associated with a gastroenteritis epidemic occurring upstream of an oyster farming area. In this study, we monitored the norovirus concentration in oysters weekly between November 2014 and March 2015 and investigated the statistical relationship between norovirus genogroup II (GII ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Hepatitis C virus genotypes in liver transplant recipients: Impact on posttransplant recurrence, infections, response to interferon-α therapy and outcome [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Background. End-stage liver disease due to hepatitis C virus (HCV) is the most common indication for liver transplantation in U.S. veterans. We investigated the influence of HCV genotypes on the incidence and timing of recurrent HCV hepatitis, survival ...

HLA class II genotyping: two assay systems compared

open access: yesClinical Chemistry, 1995
Abstract In the last few years, a variety of DNA-based human leukocyte antigen (HLA) typing methods have emerged, revealing the extreme polymorphism of HLA genes. This polymorphism makes it difficult for a clinical laboratory to establish the best HLA typing strategy.
