We reviewed 36 patients with gentamicin vestibulotoxicity to determine its relationship to gentamicin dosage, serum gentamicin levels, and the development of gentamicin nephrotoxicity. Thirty of the patients had received intravenous or intramuscular gentamicin; six had received intraperitoneal gentamicin.

Gentamicin Attenuates Gentamicin-Induced Ototoxicity – Self-Protection
Drug and Chemical Toxicology, 2008Aminoglycoside antibiotics cause considerable toxicity to the inner ear. A progressive hearing loss at high frequencies resulted from the loss of hair cells in the base of the cochlea and a constant preoccupation with finding a treatment that protects against their toxic effects.
