Compositional Studies of Seeds and Fruits from Two Varieties of Geoffroea decorticans

open access: yesJournal of Food Composition and Analysis, 2001
Abstract Chanar (Geoffroea decorticans) seeds and fruits constitute valuable foodstuff for humans and animals in many semiarid regions of South America. The purpose of this research was to determine the proximate composition and fatty acid pattern of seeds and fruits from two varieties of Chanar growing in Argentina. The chemical parameters evaluated

Chemical evaluation of Geoffroea decorticans seeds as source of oil and protein

open access: yesGrasas y Aceites, 2000
Proximate, fatty acid and sterol compositions of the oil were determined to ascertain the general characteristics of the seed and seed oil of Geoffroea decorticans (Leguminosae) originating from central area of Argentina. Proteins represented 21.6% (w/w) of the seed. Seed oil was extracted with n-hexane, yielding 47.2% (w/w).

Chloroplast genome structure and phylogeny of Geoffroea decorticans, a native tree from Atacama Desert

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Biotechnology, 2022
Background: Geoffroea decorticans is a vulnerable native species inhabiting the Atacama Desert. Here, we describe the structure, gene composition and phylogeny of the complete chloroplast genome of this legume species. Results: The chloroplast genome consisted of 158,399 bp, with typical quadripartite structures: a large single copy (88,081 bp), a ...

Quality and Conservation of Riparian Forest in a Mountain Subtropical Basin of Argentina

open access: yesInternational Journal of Ecology, Volume 2016, Issue 1, 2016., 2016
The aims of this work were to describe the conservation status of riparian forests located in a mountain subtropical basin of Tucumán province, Argentina, and assess how the quality of riparian forests is related with altitude, plant species richness, proportion of exotic species, and Total Suspended Solids (TSS) in adjacent rivers.

A new species of Scopinella from pampas grass in Argentina [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A previously undescribed species of the genus Scopinella was found during a survey of the fungi associated with Cortaderia selloana (Poaceae) in Argentina. The ascospores are strongly asymmetrical and have the shape of a truncated pyramid with a convex

Antimycotic activity of 5′-prenylisoflavanones of the plant Geoffroea decorticans, against Aspergillus species

open access: yesInternational Journal of Food Microbiology, 2009
The antifungal activity of the ethanolic extract (EE), (3R)-5,7,2',3'-tetrahydroxy-4'-methoxy-5'-prenylisoflavanone (1) and (3R)-7-2'-3'-trihydroxy-4'-methoxy-5'-prenylisoflavanone (2) isolated from Geoffroea decorticans was evaluated against four different species of Aspergillus. Their effect was compared with that displayed by synthetic products. The

Broad Protein Spectrum in Stored Pollen of Three Stingless Bees from the Chaco Dry Forest in South America (Hymenoptera, Apidae, Meliponini) and Its Ecological Implications

open access: yesPsyche: A Journal of Entomology, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
Protein content of pollen stored by three meliponine species was variable from 9.78% (less than half the value considered as optimal to brood development in Apis mellifera) in type Capparis tweediana‐C. speciosa to more than 26% in type Maytenus vitis-idaea and some Prosopis samples.

Saltcedar (Tamarix ramosissima) Invasion Alters Decomposer Fauna and Plant Litter Decomposition in a Temperate Xerophytic Deciduous Forest

open access: yesAdvances in Ecology, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
Plant invasions may alter the soil system by changing litter quality and quantity, thereby affecting soil community and ecosystem processes. We investigated the effect of Tamarix ramosissima invasion on the decomposer fauna and litter decomposition process, as well as the importance of litter quality in decomposition.

New Data on Food Consumption in Pre‐Hispanic Populations from Northwest Argentina (ca. 1000–1550 A.D.): The Contribution of Carbon and Nitrogen Isotopic Composition of Human Bones

open access: yesJournal of Anthropology, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
We present data on carbon and nitrogen isotopic composition of human bones from Tolombón (Calchaqui Valley, Salta) and Esquina de Huajra (Quebrada de Humahuaca, Jujuy) sites located in Northwest Argentina (NWA). Both are complex archaeological residential settlements ascribed to the Regional Development Period (ca.
