Microextraction and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry for improved analysis of geosmin and other fungal "off" volatiles in grape juice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Geosmin is a volatile fungal metabolite with an earthy aroma produced in grape products from rotten grapes. The accumulation of geosmin in grapes is caused by the interaction of Botrytis cinerea and Penicillium expansum.

Wood as Alternative Tank Construction Material in Sustainable Shrimp Aquaculture

open access: yesAquaculture Research, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
The production of Pacific white shrimp (PWS; Penaeus vannamei) in closed aquaculture systems (CASs) has become an important sector of marine aquaculture. However, there are several issues related to the environmental sustainability of shrimp CAS, including the widespread use of unsustainable construction materials such as plastic, concrete, and steel ...

Detection and control of off-flavour compound-producing streptomycetes on locally produced nuts using streptophages [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiology Australia, 2022
Members of the phylum Actinomycetota (commonly known as actinomycetes) are the most prominent part of the soil microbiota, more specifically the species within the genus Streptomyces of this phylum.

An automated micro solid phase extraction gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (μSPE-GC–MS) detection method for geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol in drinking water

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol (2-MIB) are amongst the most common earthy and musty taste and odour (T&O) compounds found in drinking water. With low odour threshold detection limits below 10 ng L−1, and the complexity of raw water matrices, these two ...

Penyebab Ikan Bercita Rasa Lumpur dan Penanganannya untuk Konsumsi [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Fish and shrimp lived in bloomed of blue green algae environment commonly face muddy flavour problem. That was cased by geosmin, a metabolite product of blue green algae.

Isolation and identification of novel geosmin-degrading bacteria

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioscience, 2011
Three novel geosmin-degrading bacteria were isolated from the sediments of Lake Kasumigaura, Japan. All strains were identified as Acinetobacter spp. by 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis and can biodegrade geosmin at an initial geosmin concentration of 2 mg/L after 2 days.

Icariin Alleviates Bleomycin‐Induced Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis in Mice by Modulating the Gut–Lung Axis and Serum Metabolism

open access: yesInternational Journal of Clinical Practice, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a devastating lung disease of uncertain etiology with few specific and effective therapeutic agents approved for its treatment. We examined the underlying processes and the impact of icariin (ICA) on a bleomycin‐induced pulmonary fibrosis model.

Prevention of muddy taints in farmed barramundi [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Research work within this project has generated a wealth of new information on muddy taints occurring in freshwater barramundi farmed in open-culture ponds in North Queensland.

Model‐Guided Systematic Metabolic Engineering for Enhanced Spinosad Biosynthesis in Saccharopolyspora spinosa NHF132

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 47, December 18, 2025.
A genome‐scale model guided the systematic metabolic engineering of Saccharopolyspora spinosa, enabling a 5.5‐fold boost in the green bioinsecticide spinosad to 1.8 g L−1 and establishing an actinomycete framework for complex natural products overproduction.

Identification of potential geosmin-binding proteins in grass carp gill based on affinity responsive target stability and tandem mass tag proteomics

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
The escalating issue of water pollution, especially the accumulation of organic off-flavor pollutants, poses significant challenges. Geosmin, a typical off-flavor compound in aquatic environments, not only compromises the quality of aquatic products but ...
