A genome‐scale model guided the systematic metabolic engineering of Saccharopolyspora spinosa, enabling a 5.5‐fold boost in the green bioinsecticide spinosad to 1.8 g L−1 and establishing an actinomycete framework for complex natural products overproduction.

Sensory Preference of Drinking Water Influenced by Subthreshold‐Level Mineral Salt Mixtures
A distinct preference plateau was identified, with liking maximized near the salts' absolute thresholds. Sweetness promotion and astringency suppression were the primary sensory mechanisms driving preference in these mineral salt mixtures. A predictive model pinpointed the optimal blend (0.92 mg/L KCl; 0.60 mg/L MgSO4), providing a practical, data ...

Ability of Bacillus to Degrade Geosmin
The ability of Bacillus strains to degrade geosmin, a musty off-flavor component present in superficial waters, led some authors to postulate the existence of a Bacillus exoenzyme: the “geosminase”. Such an enzyme, as an immobilized form onto a granular material, would be of a great interest to remove geosmin from water.

Abstract Geosmin (GSM) and 2‐methylisoborneol (MIB) cause objectionable off‐flavors in fish produced in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS). Remediation solutions have not been developed; therefore, a study was conducted to determine if microbial maturity limits off‐flavor production. Triplicate RAS with newly established nitrification (“immature”)

Compounds such as 2-methylisoborneol (2-MIB) and geosmin present in the final effluents of wastewater treatment plants may affect water treatment in downstream areas. To reduce the concentrations of 2-MIB and geosmin, we investigated the influence of the

Geosmin and 2-MIB are responsible for the majority of earthy and musty events related to the drinking water. These two odorants have extremely low odor threshold concentrations at ng L−1 level in the water, so a simple and sensitive method for the ...
