Detection of GFAP and cit-GFAP in livers from sham-operated control and BDL mice.
The expression levels of GFAP and cit-GFAP in the liver tissues of control and BDL mice were analyzed by western blot using rabbit polyclonal anti-GFAP (Abcam, Cambridge UK) and citrullinated GFAP (CTGF-122R and CTGF-1221) antibodies.

Changes in the density of astrocytes in the brain of rats caused by a single prolonged stress [PDF]
Introduction: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a chronic syndrome caused by a traumatic stressful event. Numerous patients do not respond to conventional therapy, which shows that the pathogenetic mechanisms of PTSD are insufficiently known.

Serum GFAP levels in optic neuropathies [PDF]
Complement mediated autoimmunity against aquaporin-4 results in astrocytic damage in neuromyelitis optica (NMO). There is evidence for increased CSF glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and S100B levels in acute NMO. Here we tested whether the CSF finding also holds true for the diagnostic value of serum GFAP and S100B levels in NMO.A multicentre ...

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

SPG4 and Dementia: Expanding the Clinical Spectrum
ABSTRACT Objective Hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP) is a group of disorders characterized by progressive spasticity and lower limb weakness, with mutations in SPG4/SPAST being the most common cause. Detailed studies and clinical and molecular comparisons across different populations are missing.
