The dynamics of the giant radio galaxy 3C457 [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2009
We present multi-frequency radio observations with the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope and Very Large Array, and X-ray observations with the X-ray Multi-Mirror Mission ({\it XMM-Newton}) telescope of the giant radio source (GRS) 3C 457. We have detected the core, lobes and the environment of the GRS in X-ray.

Giant radio galaxies – I. Intergalactic barometers [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2013
We present new wideband radio observations with the Australia Telescope Compact Array of a sample of 12 giant radio galaxies. The radio observations are part of a larger radio-optical study aimed at relating the radio structures with the ambient medium on large scales.

Feeding the Central Engine in Giant Radio Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1999
Giant radio galaxies are thought to be massive ellipticals powered by accretion of interstellar matter onto a supermassive black hole. Interactions with gas rich galaxies may provide the interstellar matter to feed the active galactic nucleus (AGN). To power radio lobes that extend up to distances of hundreds of kiloparsecs, gas has to be funneled from

Spectroscopy of Red Giants of the Sagittarius Dwarf Galaxy [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1999
The photometric study of the Sagittarius dwarf galaxy by Marconi et al. (1998) has suggested the presence of a spread in metallicity (-0.7 ≤ [Fe/H] ≤ −1.6), which may result from different bursts of star formation. We present the results from a Multi Object Slit spectroscopy program carried out at the NTT with the aim to determine spectroscopic ...

Radio Galaxy Zoo: new giant radio galaxies in the RGZ DR1 catalogue [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2020
ABSTRACT In this paper, we present the identification of five previously unknown giant radio galaxies (GRGs) using Data Release 1 of the Radio Galaxy Zoo citizen science project and a selection method appropriate to the training and validation of deep learning algorithms for new radio surveys.

Globular Clusters in Dwarf and Giant Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The luminosity distribution of globular clusters shows a dramatic dependence on parent galaxy luminosity. Dwarf galaxies contain far more faint globulars than do luminous galaxies. This difference is significant at the 99.7% level. On the other hand the luminosity distribution of globular clusters in dwarf galaxies does not appear to depend strongly on

Giant Molecular Cloud Populations in Nearby Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2015
AbstractWe present new results from a comparative analysis of the resolved giant molecular cloud (GMC) populations in six nearby galaxies. We show that the GMCs in denser environments–M51, the centre of NGC6946–have greater CO surface brightness and higher velocity dispersions relative to their size than GMCs in less dense environments.
