Authenticating Production Origin of Gilthead Sea Bream (Sparus aurata) by Chemical and Isotopic Fingerprinting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Recent EU legislation (EC/2065/2001) requires that fish products, of wild and farmed origin, must provide consumer information that describes geographical origin and production method.

Effect of freezing on quality of sea bass and gilthead sea bream

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Lipid Science and Technology, 2012
AbstractFreezing is an efficient method of fish preservation. The aim of the present work was to examine the impact of freezing in fatty acid composition and in the in vitro inhibitory activity of sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) and gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) fillet lipids against platelet activating factor (PAF).

Impact of Diets Containing Plant Raw Materials as Fish Meal and Fish Oil Replacement on Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), Gilthead Sea Bream (Sparus aurata), and Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio) Freshness

open access: yesJournal of Food Quality, 2018
The present study aimed to evaluate whether the total or high substitution of fish meal (FM) and fish oil (FO) by sustainable plant raw materials (plant meal and oils) in long-term feeding for rainbow trout, gilthead sea bream, and common carp can result

Virulence and molecular typing of Vibrio harveyi strains isolated from cultured dentex, gilthead sea bream and European sea bass

open access: yes, 2021
Vibrio harveyi was isolated from internal organs or ulcers of diseased and apparently healthy gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) and European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) cultured in several fish farms located on the Spanish Mediterranean coast.

Assessment of oxidative stress in Flathead mullet (Mugil cephalus) and Gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata)

open access: yesVeterinární Medicína, 2015
In this work we compared two species of fish with different feeding habits: Flathead mullet (Mugil cephalus) and Gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata). The aim of this study was to evaluate total oxidant status (TOS), total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and ...

Viral nervous necrosis outbreaks caused by the RGNNV/SJNNV reassortant betanodavirus in gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) and European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Mediterranean marine aquaculture has suffered significant economic losses due to viral nervous necrosis (VNN) outbreaks mainly caused by different RGNNV betanodavirus strains.

Protein synthesis in gilthead sea bream: response to partial fishmeal replacement [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Nutrition, 2012
The present study aimed to measure tissue protein synthesis in sea bream fed isonitrogenous diets that contained 63, 55 and 50 % fishmeal; in the latter two diets, 16 and 27 % of the fishmeal protein was replaced with plant protein. Over a 35 d period, there were no differences in feed intake, growth or feed efficiency among the three diets.

Molecular characterization of a gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) muscle tissue cDNA for carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1B (CPT1B) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Understanding the control of piscine fatty acid metabolism is important for determining the nutritional requirements of fish, and hence for the production of optimal aquaculture diets.

Branchial osmoregulatory response to salinity in the gilthead sea bream,Sparus auratus

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part A: Comparative Experimental Biology, 2005
The branchial osmoregulatory response of gilthead sea bream (Sparus auratus L.) to short-term (2-192 hr) and long-term (2 weeks) exposure to different environmental salinities (5 per thousand, 15 per thousand, 25 per thousand, 38 per thousand and 60 per thousand) was investigated.

SHELF –LIFE OF SEA BREAM (SPARUS AURATA) PACKAGED IN MODIFIED ATMOSPHERE: RELATIONSHIPs BETWEEN SENSORY AND MICROBIOLOGICAL PARAMETERS

open access: yesItalian Journal of Food Safety, 2013
The research evaluates sensorial and microbiological parameters of gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) during storage in MAP. Fish samples, obtained from three off-shore breedings located in Messina, Pisa and Sassari, were analyzed after 1, 5, 8, 12, 15 ...
