Energy metabolism of hyperthyroid gilthead sea bream Sparus aurata L. [PDF]

open access: yesComparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Molecular & Integrative Physiology, 2016
Thyroid hormones, in particular 3,5,3'-triiodothyronine or T3, are involved in multiple physiological processes in mammals such as protein, fat and carbohydrate metabolism. However, the metabolic actions of T3 in fish are still not fully elucidated. We therefore tested the effects of T3 on Sparus aurata energy metabolism and osmoregulatory system, a ...

Molecular Identification and mRNA Expression Profiles of Galectin-9 Gene in Red Sea Bream (Pagrus major) Infected with Pathogens

open access: yesAnimals, 2021
Galectin (Gal) is a member of a family of β-galactoside-binding lectin. The members of this family play important roles in the recognition of carbohydrate ligands and in various other biological processes.

A Comparative BAC Map for the Gilthead Sea Bream (Sparus aurata L.) [PDF]

open access: yesBioMed Research International, 2010
This study presents the first comparative BAC map of the gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata), a highly valuated marine aquaculture fish species in the Mediterranean. High‐throughput end sequencing of a BAC library yielded 92,468 reads (60.6 Mbp).

The gene expression profile of the glucocorticoid receptor 1 (gr1) but not gr2 is modulated in mucosal tissues of gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) exposed to acute air-exposure stress

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2022
The perception of an acute stressor (short-duration; high-intensity) induces a physiological response that activates the hypothalamic-pituitary-interrenal (HPI) axis and the subsequent release of cortisol. Cortisol carries out its effect at the molecular

Use of microarray technology to assess the time course of liver stress response after confinement exposure in gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata L.)

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2010
Background Selection programs for growth and stress traits in cultured fish are fundamental to the improvement of aquaculture production. The gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) is the main aquacultured species in the Mediterranean area and there is ...

Dietary manganese levels for gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) fingerlings fed diets high in plant ingredients

open access: yes, 2020
: Manganese (Mn) is an essential metal for fish and requirements have been established for several finfish but not for gilthead sea bream. Thus, the present study aims to establish the optimal dietary supplementation level of Mn in gilthead sea bream ...

Quantitative trait loci involved in sex determination and body growth in the gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata L.) through targeted genome scan. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
Among vertebrates, teleost fish exhibit a considerably wide range of sex determination patterns that may be influenced by extrinsic parameters. However even for model fish species like the zebrafish Danio rerio the precise mechanisms involved in primary ...

The Israeli Market For Cultured Gilthead Sea Bream (Sparus Aurata) [PDF]

open access: yesIsraeli Journal of Aquaculture - Bamidgeh, 2001
With average annual growth at 38%, sea bream production is the main growth factor in Israel’s fish- eries industry. It is estimated that cultured sea bream constituted over 10% of the volume and 20% of the value of domestic fisheries in 2000. Per capita consumption of sea bream grew from 0.11 kg in 1995 to an estimated 0.39 kg in 2000.
