Energy‐Efficient, Sustainable Cascade Glucose Electrooxidation into Glucaric Acid

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a tandem system that efficiently converts glucose into glucaric acid while generating renewable electricity. By decoupling the oxidation process into two cascaded steps, the system achieves an overall 90% Faradaic efficiency and 80% conversion efficiency at ∼0.6 VRHE, significantly reducing energy consumption compared to traditional

Directed Navigation of Magnetotactic Bacteria via Magnetotaxis in a 3D Vasculature‐On‐A‐Chip

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A perfusable vascular network is developed to investigate MTB at the single‐microorganism level. MTB is demonstrated to successfully align and navigate along the magnetic field inside the microvessels. Abstract Magnetotactic bacteria (MTB), inherently motile and self‐powered, are promising biorobotic candidates for targeted anti‐cancer drug delivery ...

Functional evaluation of a novel GLA causative mutation in Fabry disease

open access: yesMolecular Genetics & Genomic Medicine, 2019
Background Fabry disease (FD), a rare X‐linked α‐galactosidase A (GLA) deficiency, resulting in progressive lysosomal accumulation of globotriaosylceramide in a variety of cell types. More and more disease‐causing mutations in GLA have been identified in

Improved γ-linolenic acid production in Mucor circinelloides by homologous overexpressing of delta-12 and delta-6 desaturases

open access: yesMicrobial Cell Factories, 2017
Background γ-Linolenic acid (GLA) is important because of its nutritional value and medicinal applications. Although the biosynthetic pathways of some plant and microbial GLA have been deciphered, current understanding of the correlation between ...

Overcoming Printing and Interfacial Challenges in Liquid Metal Direct Writing for Integrated Stretchable Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Liquid metal direct writing is advanced from a technological and fundamental point. Utilizing a kinematic bed, printing on large surfaces with irregularities is enabled. Furthermore, a pressure‐driven flow during printing is discovered that affects the thickness of traces.

AMPK-ULK1-Mediated Ferritinophagy Drives Ferroptosis in GLA-Induced Testicular Toxicity

open access: yesResearch
The health problem of infertility has garnered increasing attention, prompting a deeper understanding of its causes. The broad-spectrum and nonselective herbicide glufosinate ammonium (GLA) is widely used in many countries.

Molecular Bottom‐Up Design of Single‐Site Copper‐Palladium Catalysts for Selective Glycerol Electro‐Oxidation

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
A bimetallic Cu‐Pd single‐site catalyst for the selective and efficient electrooxidation of glycerol to formate and C3‐products (lactate, glycolate, glycerate) is reported. Experimental and theoretical studies shed light on the catalyst function and reveal that Pd sites facilitate the adsorption of hydroxyl (C‐OH) species which prevents C‐C bond ...

Modulation expression of tumor necrosis factor α in the radiation-induced lung injury by glycyrrhizic acid

open access: yesJournal of Medical Physics, 2015
To evaluate the ability of glycyrrhizic acid (GLA) to reduce the tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α), release on messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) and protein production in the lungs using GLA in response to irradiation were studied. The animals were divided

Skin globotriaosylceramide 3 deposits are specific to Fabry disease with classical mutations and associated with small fibre neuropathy. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Fabry Disease (FD) is characterized by globotriaosylceramide-3 (Gb3) accumulation in several tissues and a small fibre neuropathy (SFN), however the underlying mechanisms are poorly known. This study aimed to: 1) ascertain the presence of Gb3 deposits in

Effect Differences of Omega‐3 Fatty Acids From Plant Oil and Fish Oil on Human Health

open access: yesAgriFood: Journal of Agricultural Products for Food, EarlyView.
Omega‐3 fatty acids in plant oil is no less than fish oil on human health. ALA in plant oil takes directly healthy effects without conversion to DHA and EPA. Plant oil can be substitutes for fish oil to support partial ω‐3 fatty acids. For people who cannot afford fish oil, plant oil is also good for public health.
