Antioxidant effect of polyphenolic glabridin on LDL oxidation

Toxicology and Industrial Health, 2009
This study was conducted to determine the effect of a natural polyphenolic isoflavone antioxidant (Glabridin) on low-density lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation. Determination of the extent of LDL oxidation was done by measuring the formation of Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS).

Crystal Structures of Human Transthyretin Complexed with Glabridin

Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 2014
Transthyretin (TTR) is a plasma protein implicated in human amyloid diseases. Several small molecules that bind to the thyroxine-binding site of TTR have been shown to stabilize the TTR tetramer and to inhibit amyloid fibril formation of TTR. Herein, we demonstrated that glabridin (Glab), a prenylated isoflavan isolated from Glycyrrhiza glabra L ...

Study on the fungicidal mechanism of glabridin against Fusarium graminearum

Pesticide Biochemistry and Physiology, 2021
Glabridin is a natural plant-derived compound that has been widely used in medicine and cosmetic applications. However, the fungicidal mechanism of glabridin against phytopathogens remains unclear. In this study, we determined the biological activity and physiological effects of glabridin against F. graminearum.

Evaluation of Glabridin loaded nanostructure lipid carriers

Journal of the Taiwan Institute of Chemical Engineers, 2017
Abstract Effective use of Glabridin (GL) is limited by poor solubility, poor stability and unsatisfactory skin penetration in cosmetic products. To reduce such limitations, GL was formulated into nanostructure lipid carriers (NLCs) as a controlled-released system. The preparation and performance in vitro were evaluated.

Stabilization of glabridin by chitosan nano-complex

Journal of the Korean Society for Applied Biological Chemistry, 2012
Stabilization of glabridin, an isoflavan extracted from Glycyrrhiza glabra (licorice) root, was investigated in electrostatic complex prepared by glabridin and chitosan. Nanoparticles of the complex were spontaneously formed by adding glabridin into chitosan or three N-acylated chitosans which were synthesized by reacting chitosan with acid anhydride ...

The effect of endogenous antioxidant glabridin on oxidized LDL

Journal of Basic and Clinical Physiology and Pharmacology, 2008
Oxidative stress is thought to play a central role in low-density lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation, and the oxidative modification of LDL is thought to be a key factor during early atherogenesis. Therefore, the prevention of LDL oxidation by antioxidants might arrest the progression of atherosclerosis.

Inhibition of bone marrow-derived dendritic cell maturation by glabridin

International Immunopharmacology, 2010
Glabridin has multiple pharmacological activities including anti-microbial, anti-atherosclerotic, anti-nephritic, anti-inflammatory and cardiovascular protective activities. In this study, we investigated the effect of glabridin on dendritic cells, which play an essential role in innate and adaptive immune responses.

Preparation of High-quality Glabridin Extract from Glycyrrhiza glabra

Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering, 2019
Supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) using cosolvent-modified supercritical carbon dioxide and a two-step separation/purification method was investigated as a way to improve the purity of glabridin, one of the many bioactive components of Glycyrrhiza glabra (licorice).
