Some analytical characters of cottonseed varieties grown in Turkey

open access: yesGrasas y Aceites, 1997
Sixteen cottonseed varieties grown in Turkey were analysed. The average oil content in varieties ranged from 309.7g Kg-1 to 379.5g Kg-1 whereas the range in values of gossypol content for glanded varieties was 7.4-12.8g Kg-1.

Transgressive Segregation in an Acala Glanded × Acala Glandless Hybrid Population for the Development of Glandless Cotton Germplasm

open access: yesJournal of Cotton Science, 2016
Improvement in lint yield is vital to commercial production of glandless cotton. The objective of this study was to determine if glanded ‘Acala 1517-08’ could be converted to glandless cotton without a yield penalty by crossing breeding with an obsolete glandless cotton.

A Repertoire of Major Genes From Crop Wild Relatives for Breeding Disease‐Resistant Wheat, Rice, Maize, Soybean and Cotton Crops

open access: yesPlant Breeding, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Global food demand is predicted to rise anywhere from 59% to 98% by 2050 because of increasing population. However, the continued depletion of natural resources and increasing biotic and abiotic stresses will continue to pose significant threats to global food security in coming years.

Effect of GammaRay in the Progeny of Trispecific Hybrid [(Gossypium hirsutum x G. raimondii)² x G. sturtianum]

open access: yesNotulae Botanicae Horti Agrobotanici Cluj-Napoca, 2010
The objective of this study is to analyse the possibilities of fixing in the progeny of the [(Gossypium hirsutum x G. raimondii)² x G. sturtianum] (HRS) trispecies hybrid, the glandless-seed and glanded-plant trait.

The cotton historical lines project—Part I: History and field evaluation

open access: yesCrop Science, Volume 66, Issue 1, January/February 2026.
Abstract Common garden experiments have provided great insights into crop adaptation across many systems. Cotton (Gossypium spp.) cultivars have changed in the 20th and 21st centuries, but breeders have not quantified the degree of these changes. We synthesized a panel of 164 non‐genetically modified genotypes, from the private and public sectors ...

Engineering Gossypol‐Free Cottonseeds for Future Global Food Security and Agricultural Sustainability

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 1, January 2026.
This study depicting the role of transcriptomics, RNA interference (RNAi), and CRISPR/Cas9 technologies in the breeding of glandless cottonseed and glanded cotton tissues. This approach demonstrates the potential of cotton as a dual‐purpose crop, serving both the fiber industry and as a sustainable food and feed source.

Snake oil in action: Geographic and seasonal variability in epidermal lipids shape evaporative water loss in snakes

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 40, Issue 1, Page 15-25, January 2026.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Many reptiles inhabit deserts where extreme heat and aridity make it imperative to minimize evaporative water loss (EWL) in order to maintain a water balance. We compared the EWL of desert versus Mediterranean snakes and the content and composition of their epidermal ...
