Essential Oil Composition and Glandular Trichome Structure of the Weather Prophet Dimorphoteca pluvialis

open access: yesBiology and Life Sciences Forum, 2023
Dimorphoteca pluvialis (L.) Moench, usually known as weather prophet, African daisy, or Cape marigold, is an Asteraceae commonly found in gardens due to its appealing white to yellowish flowers.

Russian wheat aphid: a model for genomic plasticity and a challenge to breeders

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Invasive foundress finds suitable habitat and reproduces through pathogenesis. Wingless females produce life offspring quickly, which leads to high population densities. High population densities result in competition, which may induce epigenetic changes and wing development for dispersal.

Attractiveness of Melon Genotypes to Whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) Mediated by Foliar Morphological and Biochemical Traits

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
This study identifies melon genotypes resistant to Bemisia tabaci by integrating morphological and biochemical leaf traits. Using free‐choice and no‐choice assays, we demonstrate that resistance is primarily mediated by antixenosis. Genotypes CNPH 11‐1071‐43, CNPH 06‐1047‐343, CNPH 13‐1076, and BG MEL 16 significantly reduced whitefly settling and ...

Birch Leaves as a Minefield: Do Trichomes Mediate Neonate Caterpillar Site Selection?

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
We investigated whether neonate Drepana arcuata caterpillars select leaf sites based on trichome distribution. Specifically, we assessed where larvae establish on leaves, quantified trichome distribution on leaves, and tested whether neonates avoid leaf trichomes. Neonates preferentially established and fed on areas with fewer trichomes, especially the

The Ultrastructure of Glandular Trichomes ofPhillyrea latifoliaL. (Oleaceae) Leaves [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Botany, 1998
Abstract The anatomy and ultrastructure of glandular trichomes at different developmental stages were investigated in Phillyrea latifolia L. leaves by transmission electron microscopy and histochemical techniques. The trichome consisted of a multicellular secretory head, a unicellular stalk and a collecting cell surrounded by epidermal cells and ...

QTL Mapping of the Shape of Type VI Glandular Trichomes in Tomato

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2018
Glandular trichomes contribute to the high resistance of wild tomato species against insect pests not only thanks to the metabolites they produce but also because of morphological and developmental features which support the high production of these ...

Applying quantitative spatial phenotypes analysis to the investigation of peltate glandular trichomes development pattern in Perilla frutescens

open access: yesPlant Methods, 2023
Background Glandular trichomes, often referred to as “phytochemical factories”, plays a crucial role in plant growth and metabolism. As the site for secretion and storage, the development of glandular trichomes is related to the dynamic biosynthesis of ...

α‐1,3‐Glucan Is Required for Cell Wall Integrity and Full Virulence of Colletotrichum graminicola, but Not for Evasion of PAMP‐Triggered Immunity

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, EarlyView.
Abbreviated Summary The role of the major fungal cell wall polymer α‐1,3‐glucan in plant infection is poorly understood. Deletion mutants of the maize anthracnose fungus Colletotrichum graminicola lacking all three α‐1,3‐glucan synthase genes differentiated severely distorted biotrophic hyphae in planta, and virulence was strongly reduced.

A Novel CsYABBY3‐CsAS1 Feedback Loop Coordinates Trichome Differentiation and Cannabinoid Biosynthesis in Cannabis sativa L.

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Glandular trichome development typically coincides with specialized‐metabolite production, yet the regulatory mechanisms that synchronizes these processes remain elusive.

Tonoplast‐Localized ABCC Transporters Enhance Heterologous Production of the Antidiabetic Montbretin A and Its Analogues in Nicotiana benthamiana

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The plant‐derived specialized metabolite montbretin A (MbA) is under development as an improved treatment for Type 2 diabetes, a worldwide epidemic. MbA is an acylated flavonol glycoside so far only found in small amounts in montbretia (Crocosmia × crocosmiiflora) corms.
