Systematic Overestimation of Global Peak Runoff Synchronization in CMIP6 Models

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 18, 28 September 2026.
Abstract Synchronous flooding across distant regions can amplify socioeconomic impacts. As the hydrological cycle intensifies, flood synchronization appears to be expanding, yet predictive understanding beyond gauged basins remains limited. We analyze the global synchronization of annual peak runoff (a proxy for flooding) using gridded data sets and ...

NASA GLDAS Evapotranspiration Data and Climatology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Evapotranspiration (ET) is the water lost to the atmosphere by evaporation and transpiration. ET is a shared component in the energy and water budget, therefore, a critical variable for global energy and water cycle and climate change studies.

SWOT Discharge Accuracy Benchmarked in South America

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 17, 16 September 2026.
Abstract The Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) satellite mission offers unprecedented estimates of global river discharge. This study provides a first continental‐scale assessment of SWOT Consensus discharge performance across South America and compares it with a large‐scale hydrodynamic model and in situ observations.

Input Runoff Data for RAPID Model Pre-Processor (RRR) from GLDAS-v.2.0

open access: yes, 2020
This database can be used as the input runoff files in the RAPID model [David et al., 2011] pre-processor (RRR). The runoff files were acquired/derived from the GLDAS-v.2.0 [Rodell et al., 2004] LSM outputs, available at; http://hydro1.gesdisc.eosdis ...

Temperature Vegetation Dryness Index-Based Soil Moisture Retrieval Algorithm Developed for Geo-KOMPSAT-2A

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) has developed many product algorithms including that for soil moisture (SM) retrieval for the geostationary satellite Geo-Kompsat-2A (GK-2A) launched in December 2018.

Budyko Curve Conformance Unravelling Hydrological Change in a Semi‐Arid Mediterranean‐Climate River Basin

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 40, Issue 9, September 2026.
This study applies an integration of Budyko diagnostics, change‐point detection, and dual attribution methods to the Gediz River Basin, revealing a major 1984 regime shift. Streamflow decline is driven mainly (50%–75%) by reduced precipitation, with secondary human impacts.

Intensifying Flash Droughts Aggravate Vegetation Ecosystem Vulnerability in the Monsoon Region of China: Evidence From Resistance and Resilience Responses

open access: yesEarth's Future, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract The resistance and resilience of vegetation determine its ability to maintain ecosystem functional stability under flash drought stress. However, a research framework that quantifies event‐scale response characteristics of vegetation resistance, resilience, and vulnerability remains lacking.

Spatiotemporal Variations of Soil Temperature at 10 and 50 cm Depths in Permafrost Regions along the Qinghai-Tibet Engineering Corridor

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2023
Soil temperature plays an essential role in the permafrost thermal state and degradation process. Especially the soil temperatures at 10 cm and 50 cm depths in the active layer, which are much easier to be observed in situ, have great effects on the ...
