Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP)

Journal of the Neurological Sciences, 1979
Abstract The extraction and purification of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) from human fibrillary cerebellar astrocytoma is described. Using an immunoperoxidase method, antisera raised to the protein showed specific staining of astrocytes in normal spinal cord and in tumours of astrocytic origin.

Specific monoclonal antibodies to glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP)

Journal of Neuroimmunology, 1986
Anti-glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) monoclonal antibody has been obtained by fusing SP2/O myeloma cells with splenic cells from mice immunized with human GFAP. It belongs to the IgG1 class and it recognizes an epitope on GFAP which is shared by each fragment of the protein.

The lens epithelium contains glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP)

Journal of Neuroimmunology, 1985
Both polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies to glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) intensely immunostain the lens epithelium. Two-dimensional gels of mouse lens epithelium protein extracts reveal a protein which co-migrates with GFAP from spinal cord.

Neuronal modulation of schwann cell glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP)

Journal of Neuroscience Research, 1989
AbstractAdult rat sciatic nerves contain cytoskeletal peptides that resemble CNS glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in immunoreactivity and molecular weight. Immunohistological examination of teased nerve fascicles indicated that these peptides are expressed selectively by Schwann cells related to small axons.

Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein: GFAP-Thirty-One Years (1969–2000)

Neurochemical Research, 2000
It is now well established that the glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) is the principal 8-9 nm intermediate filament in mature astrocytes of the central nervous system (CNS). Over a decade ago, the value of GFAP as a prototype antigen in nervous tissue identification and as a standard marker for fundamental and applied research at an ...

Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein (GFAP)-like Immunoreactivity in Rat Endocrine Pancreas

Journal of Histochemistry & Cytochemistry, 2000
The study of intermediate filament expression in the pancreatic epithelium has been previously focused almost exclusively on cytokeratins. Transient vimentin immunoreactivity has also been detected in duct cells of rat fetal pancreas. Here we report that, in rat pancreas, intense GFAP-like immunoreactivity is detectable in a subpopulation of endocrine

Determination of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in human brain tumors

Journal of the Neurological Sciences, 1978
Brain tumors have been tested for their glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) content by means of the rocket electrophoresis technique. Meningiomas and neurinomas were low in GFAP. Metastases had a low level of GFAP except when contaminated with surrounding tissue.
