Single‐Voxel Proton Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Findings at 3 Tesla in a Dog With Gliomatosis Cerebri

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Internal Medicine
Gliomatosis cerebri (GC) represents an antemortem diagnostic challenge in the absence of histopathology. Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H‐MRS) features of the disease in humans include elevated myo‐inositol (mI)‐to‐creatine and decreased N ...

Loss of smelling is an early marker of aging and is associated with inflammation and DNA damage in C57BL/6J mice

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 22, Issue 4, April 2023., 2023
In the present study, the smelling loss of C57BL/6J mice during non‐pathological aging was systematically characterized. Our data showed that smelling changes were among the earliest changed behaviors during aging. Metabolites related with oxidative stress, osmolytes, and infection were dysregulated in brain regions related with olfaction.

A case of Lewy body disease and anaplastic astrocytoma presenting with atypical parkinsonism

open access: yesNeuropathology, Volume 42, Issue 6, Page 540-547, December 2022., 2022
We report on a patient with atypical parkinsonism due to coexistent Lewy body disease (LBD) and diffuse anaplastic astrocytoma. The patient presented with a mixed cerebellar and parkinsonian syndrome, incomplete levodopa response, and autonomic failure. The clinical diagnosis was multiple system atrophy (MSA).

Inter‐pathologist agreement on diagnosis, classification and grading of canine glioma

open access: yesVeterinary and Comparative Oncology, Volume 20, Issue 4, Page 881-889, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Histopathological evaluation of tumours is a subjective process, but studies of inter‐pathologist agreement are uncommon in veterinary medicine. The Comparative Brain Tumour Consortium (CBTC) recently published diagnostic criteria for canine gliomas.

Cerebrospinal fluid cytology findings in a case of diffuse leptomeningeal glioneuronal tumour

open access: yesCytopathology, Volume 33, Issue 6, Page 738-741, November 2022., 2022
This case report describes the cytological features of a rare tumour: diffuse leptomeningeal glioneuronal tumour. This case highlights the value of cerebrospinal fluid analysis when this type of tumour is suspected, both for aiding the preliminary morphological diagnosis and for enabling potential molecular testing.

Transsphenoidal hypophysectomy as a treatment for Rathke's cleft cyst in a dog

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 10, Issue 3, September 2022., 2022
Abstract The objective of the study was to describe the clinical, imaging, surgical and histological findings in a dog with Rathke's cleft cyst of the pituitary gland. A 6‐year‐old, female, neutered Staffordshire bull terrier was presented with an acute onset of abnormal behaviour. Magnetic resonance imaging of the skull showed a pituitary mass of 12.9

Provisional consensus on the nomenclature and operational definition of dementia at a young age, a Delphi study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry, Volume 37, Issue 3, March 2022., 2022
Abstract Objectives Dementia at a young age differs from late onset dementia in pathology and care needs. This requires further research to improve the understanding of this group, support and service provision. Aim of current study is to reach consensus on the terminology and operational definition (i.e., age‐related criteria and possible causes) of ...
