Dissolution of Globular Clusters [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2006
Globular clusters are among the oldest objects in galaxies, and understanding the details of their formation and evolution can bring valuable insight into the early history of galaxies. This review summarises the current knowledge about the dissolution of star clusters and discusses the implications of star cluster dissolution for the evolution of the ...

Circulating tumor cells: advancing personalized therapy in small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive form of lung cancer that spreads rapidly to secondary sites such as the brain and liver. Cancer cells circulating in the blood, “circulating tumor cells” (CTCs), have demonstrated prognostic value in SCLC, and evaluating biomarkers on CTCs could guide treatment decisions such as for PARP inhibitors ...

On the Origin of Neutron Stars in Globular Clusters [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1987
The formation of neutron stars in globular clusters is discussed in light of a number of recent results and, in particular, studies of the origin and evolution of the high luminosity x-ray binaries found in globular clusters. We argue that the neutron stars most probably arise from the accretion-induced collapse of white dwarfs in compact binary ...

The SLUGGS Survey: Measuring globular cluster ages using both photometry and spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Globular cluster ages provide both an important test of models of globular cluster formation and a powerful method to constrain the assembly history of galaxies. Unfortunately, measuring the ages of unresolved old stellar populations has proven challenging. Here, we present a novel technique that combines optical photometry with metallicity constraints

Integrative transcriptomic analysis identifies emetine as a promising candidate for overcoming acquired resistance to ALK inhibitors in lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 19, Issue 4, Page 1155-1169, April 2025.
We propose an efficient strategy to suppress ALK inhibitor (ALKi) resistance. By analyzing transcriptome data, we identified emetine as a potential inhibitor. We demonstrated that emetine exhibited effectiveness in inhibiting the growth of ALKi‐resistant cells, and further interpreted its impact on the resistant signatures through drug‐induced RNA ...

On the efficiency of field star capture by star clusters

open access: yes, 2007
An exciting recent finding regarding scaling relations among globular clusters is the so-called 'blue tilt': clusters of the blue sub-population follow a trend of redder colour with increasing luminosity.

M82, Starbursts, Star Clusters, and the Formation of Globular Clusters [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2005
We observed the nearby starburst galaxy M82 in CO in the higher frequency (2--1) transition to achieve an angular resolution below 1 arc second or 17 pc at the target. We resolved the molecular gas into a large number of compact clouds, with masses ranging from about 2x10^3 to 2x10^6 solar masses.

Combined spatially resolved metabolomics and spatial transcriptomics reveal the mechanism of RACK1‐mediated fatty acid synthesis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The authors analyzed the spatial distributions of gene and metabolite profiles in cervical cancer through spatial transcriptomic and spatially resolved metabolomic techniques. Pivotal genes and metabolites within these cases were then identified and validated.

Globular Clusters and Field Halo Stars [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1988
Recent work on the chemistry and kinematics of the field halo population stars is reviewed, including the metallicity distribution function, elemental abundance patterns, primordial abundances, and their relations with stellar kinematics. The important role played by these stars in determining the ages of the globular clusters is discussed.

Formation Scenarios for Globular Clusters and Their Host Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2001
This review focuses on how galaxies and their globular cluster systems form. I first discuss the now fairly convincing evidence that some globular clusters form in galaxy starbursts/mergers. One way these observations are valuable is they place important constraints on the physics of the formation of globular clusters.
