A Population of Massive Globular Clusters in NGC 5128

open access: yes, 2004
We present velocity dispersion measurements of 14 globular clusters in NGC 5128 (Centarus A) obtained with the MIKE echelle spectrograph on the 6.5m Magellan Clay telescope.

A search for variable stars in the globular cluster M3 [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 1998
We describe here results of a photometric time-sequence survey of the globular cluster M3 (NGC 5272), in a search for contact and detached eclipsing binary stars. We have discovered only one likely eclipsing binary and one SX Phe type star in spite of monitoring 4077 stars with $V<20.0$ and observing 25 blue stragglers.

Chemoresistome mapping in individual breast cancer patients unravels diversity in dynamic transcriptional adaptation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study used longitudinal transcriptomics and gene‐pattern classification to uncover patient‐specific mechanisms of chemotherapy resistance in breast cancer. Findings reveal preexisting drug‐tolerant states in primary tumors and diverse gene rewiring patterns across patients, converging on a few dysregulated functional modules. Despite receiving the

A universal route for the formation of massive star clusters in giant molecular clouds [PDF]

open access: yesNature Astronomy, 2018
Young massive clusters (M ≥ 104Mʘ) are proposed modern-day analogues of the globular clusters that were products of extreme star formation in the early Universe1–4.

A CH star in the globular cluster NGC 6426 [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society: Letters, 2012
Abstract We report on the serendipitous discovery of a carbon star near the centre of the low-metallicity globular cluster NGC 6426. We determined its membership and chemical properties using medium-resolution spectra. The radial velocity of −159 km s−1 makes it a member of the cluster.

Tonic signaling of the B‐cell antigen‐specific receptor is a common functional hallmark in chronic lymphocytic leukemia cell phosphoproteomes at early disease stages

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
B‐cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B‐CLL) and monoclonal B‐cell lymphocytosis (MBL) show altered proteomes and phosphoproteomes, analyzed using mass spectrometry, protein microarrays, and western blotting. Identifying 2970 proteins and 316 phosphoproteins, including 55 novel phosphopeptides, we reveal BCR and NF‐kβ/STAT3 signaling in disease ...

On the Origin of Neutron Stars in Globular Clusters [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1987
The formation of neutron stars in globular clusters is discussed in light of a number of recent results and, in particular, studies of the origin and evolution of the high luminosity x-ray binaries found in globular clusters. We argue that the neutron stars most probably arise from the accretion-induced collapse of white dwarfs in compact binary ...

Data‐driven discovery of gene expression markers distinguishing pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia subtypes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigates gene expression differences between two major pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) subtypes, B‐cell precursor ALL, and T‐cell ALL, using a data‐driven approach consisting of biostatistics and machine learning methods. Following analysis of a discovery dataset, we find a set of 14 expression markers differentiating the ...

Utilizing Voronoi Tessellations to Determine Radial Density Profiles

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
We have developed a novel method of determining 2D radial density profiles for astronomical systems of discrete objects using Voronoi tessellations. This Voronoi-based method was tested against the standard annulus-based method on five simulated systems ...
