Matrix: a complex amalgam of structures and functions in tumor microenvironment

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The matrix is a dynamic, intricate three‐dimensional mesh of biomolecules with both structural and functional properties. This review deals with the complexity of this ‘molecular amalgam’ in the tumor microenvironment and highlights its importance in the maintenance and evolution of tumors by describing certain matrix biomolecules, such as ...

Another Faint UV Object Associated with a Globular Cluster X-Ray Source: The Case of M92

open access: yes, 2000
The core of the metal poor Galactic Globular Cluster M92 (NGC 6341) has been observed with WFPC2 on the Hubble Space Telescope through visual, blue and mid-UV filters in a program devoted to study the evolved stellar population in a selected sample of ...

NMR screening of low molecular weight inhibitors targeting the papain‐like protease (PLPro) of SARS‐CoV‐2

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Papain‐like protease from SARS‐CoV‐2 plays an important role in the cleavage of the viral polyproteins and in the suppression of the host's immune response. Here, we present the results of an NMR screening study. We identified 86 binding compounds, of which five candidates were chosen for in‐depth analysis.

Stromagenesis and cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity in primary tumors and metastasis: focus in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) play different roles in NSCLC progression and metastasis. Their heterogeneous origins and phenotypes shape the tumor microenvironment and influence metastatic spread. This review highlights NSCLC CAF subtypes, their potential cellular sources, and their differential distribution across primary tumors and distant ...

Hot Stars in Globular Clusters: A Spectroscopist’s View [PDF]

open access: yesPublications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, 2001
Globular clusters are ideal laboratories to study the evolution of low-mass stars. In this work we concentrate on three types of hot stars observed in globular clusters: horizontal branch stars, UV bright stars, and white dwarfs. After providing some historical background and information on gaps and blue tails we discuss extensively hot horizontal ...

Transcriptional regulation of neuropeptide receptors underlies context‐dependent adaptation in Drosophila melanogaster

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Under environmental changes, the expression level of neuropeptide (NP) and neuropeptide receptor (NPR) genes changes to confer context‐dependent adaptation to the model organism Drosophila melanogaster. Through finding more regulatory elements in the NPR genes in comparison with their ligands (NPs), we found that NPR‐biased transcriptional regulation ...

A unified model for Duchenne muscular dystrophy gene involvement in cancer: context‐dependent tumour suppression and oncogenicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We propose a context‐dependent model where the Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) gene acts as a tumour suppressor in aggressive tumours and as an oncogene in less aggressive ones. We propose this model as a unified framework to explain the opposing survival associations with DMD expression and to guide experimental exploration of the dual role of DMD ...

JWST NIRCam Observations of the Globular Cluster Population of RXJ 2129.7+0005

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present an analysis of the globular cluster (GC) population in the galaxy cluster RXJ 2129.7+0005 ( z = 0.234) based on JWST NIRCam imaging in three filters: F115W, F150W, and F200W.

Globular Clusters and the Halos of Dwarf Galaxies

open access: yesGalaxies, 2017
Many dwarf galaxies have disproportionately rich globular cluster (GC) systems for their luminosities. Moreover, the GCs tend to be preferentially associated with the most metal-poor stellar populations in their parent galaxies, making them attractive ...
