A Systematic Analysis of Star Cluster Disruption by Tidal Shocks. II. Predicting Star Cluster Dissolution Rates from a Time-series Analysis of Their Tidal Histories

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Most of the dynamical mass loss from star clusters is thought to be caused by the time variability of the tidal field (“tidal shocks”). Systematic studies of tidal shocks have been hampered by the fact that each tidal history is unique, implying both a ...

Blanco DECam Bulge Survey (BDBS). VI. Extinction Maps Toward Southern Galactic Bulge Globular Clusters

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
We present wide-field, high resolution maps of the color excess for 14 globular clusters toward the Southern Galactic bulge. The maps were derived using Gaia EDR3 astrometry and stellar photometry from the Blanco DECam Bulge Survey, which is a deep, wide-

A stellar census in globular clusters with MUSE: Binaries in NGC 3201 [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2019
We utilise multi-epoch MUSE spectroscopy to study binary stars in the core of the Galactic globular cluster NGC 3201. Our sample consists of 3553 stars with 54 883 spectra in total comprising 3200 main-sequence stars up to 4 magnitudes below the turn-off.

Surfaceome: a new era in the discovery of immune evasion mechanisms of circulating tumor cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the era of immunotherapies, many patients either do not respond or eventually develop resistance. We propose to pave the way for proteomic analysis of surface‐expressed proteins called surfaceome, of circulating tumor cells. This approach seeks to identify immune evasion mechanisms and discover potential therapeutic targets. Circulating tumor cells (

PSR J1922+37: a 1.9 s Pulsar Discovered in the Direction of the Old Open Cluster NGC 6791

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
More than 300 pulsars have been discovered in Galactic globular clusters; however, none have been found in open clusters. Here we present results from a 20 hr survey of seven open clusters with the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope ...

A search for variable stars in the globular cluster M3 [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 1998
We describe here results of a photometric time-sequence survey of the globular cluster M3 (NGC 5272), in a search for contact and detached eclipsing binary stars. We have discovered only one likely eclipsing binary and one SX Phe type star in spite of monitoring 4077 stars with $V<20.0$ and observing 25 blue stragglers.

Multiple Stellar Populations in Globular Clusters [PDF]

open access: yesAnnual Review of Astronomy and Astrophysics, 2017
Globular clusters (GCs) exhibit star-to-star variations in specific elements (e.g., He, C, N, O, Na, Al) that bear the hallmark of high-temperature H-burning. These abundance variations can be observed spectroscopically and also photometrically, with the

Circulating tumor cells: advancing personalized therapy in small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive form of lung cancer that spreads rapidly to secondary sites such as the brain and liver. Cancer cells circulating in the blood, “circulating tumor cells” (CTCs), have demonstrated prognostic value in SCLC, and evaluating biomarkers on CTCs could guide treatment decisions such as for PARP inhibitors ...

Spectroscopic and Photometric Confirmation of 3 Globular and 14 Intermediate-age Clusters in the Irr II Galaxy NGC 3077

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
We present the results from spectroscopic and photometric analysis of 17 globular cluster (GC) candidates in the Irr II galaxy NGC 3077. The GC candidates were selected on the Hubble Space Telescope images and were cleaned of foreground Galatic stars ...
