The flowchart of this research. Abstract Background Dry eye disease (DED) predominantly results from elevated tear film osmolarity, which can not only cause ocular inconvenience but may lead to visual impairments, severely compromising patient well‐being and exerting substantial economic burdens as well.

Objective Our objective was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of subcutaneous (SC) abatacept and standard of care (SOC) for the treatment of idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM) over 52 weeks. Methods In this randomized, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled phase III trial, patients with treatment‐refractory IIM received SC abatacept (at 125 mg weekly)

The thioredoxin system: Balancing redox responses in immune cells and tumors
The thioredoxin (TRX) system is a critical contributor to cellular redox homeostasis in all living cells. Here, we review the key roles of TRX for activation, proliferation, and responses in T cells, B cells, and myeloid cells. Further, we conceptualize how this knowledge may be therapeutically exploited for cancer treatment.

Accuracy of direct gradient sensing by cell-surface receptors [PDF]
Chemotactic cells of eukaryotic organisms are able to accurately sense shallow chemical concentration gradients using cell-surface receptors. This sensing ability is remarkable as cells must be able to spatially resolve small fractional differences in the numbers of particles randomly arriving at cell-surface receptors by diffusion.

Objective A phase 2 trial tested different doses of the anti‐CD40 monoclonal antibody BI 655064 as an add‐on therapy to the standard of care in patients with class III or IV lupus nephritis (LN) with active disease. A post hoc analysis showed a potential benefit of the higher tested doses (180 and 240 mg) versus a low dose (120 mg) or placebo.

Modern surgical (technical) possibilities enable pleural macrophage isolation and analyses regardless the person`s age. Transcriptome profiling of macrophages from healthy or sick individuals revealed that these cells express high levels of metallothioneins, metal‐binding proteins that are involved in heavy metal detoxification, antioxidative defense ...
