The Involvement of Glucose in Hydrogen Gas-Medicated Adventitious Rooting in Cucumber

open access: yesPlants, 2021
Hydrogen gas (H2) and glucose (Glc) have been reported as novel antioxidants and signal molecules involved in multiple biological processes in plants. However, the physiological roles and relationships of H2 and Glc in adventitious rooting are less clear.

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

The biosynthesis of glucosamine [PDF]

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta, 1953
Abstract A partially purified enzyme has been prepared from Neurospora crassa which catalyzes the formation of glucosamine phosphate from hexose-6-phosphate and glutamine. The glucosamine phosphate was identified by colour reactions, by dephosphorylation and paper chromatography and by its behaviour towards an acetylating system.

Diels‐Alder Click Chemistry as a Dynamic‐Covalent Crosslinking Method in Spheroid‐Encapsulating Hydrogels for Cartilage Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This research shows the development of hydrogels with Diels‐Alder click chemistry for engineering cartilage‐like tissue. The hydrogels support cartilage spheroids which could be cultured for at least 28 days. Furthermore, the spheroids showed a tendency to fuse together into a more consistent construct, and produced important components needed for ...

Glucosamine exposure reduces proteoglycan synthesis in primary human endothelial cells in vitro

open access: yesFood & Nutrition Research, 2016
Purpose: Glucosamine (GlcN) supplements are promoted for medical reasons, for example, for patients with arthritis and other joint-related diseases. Oral intake of GlcN is followed by uptake in the intestine, transport in the circulation and thereafter ...

Amyloid β Instigates Cardiac Neurotrophic Signaling Impairment, Driving Alzheimer's Associated Heart Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This research identified cardiac amyloid pathology, neurotrophic factor depletion, and reduced myocardial nerve function in a transgenic model of cerebral amyloidosis (Tg2576), Aβ‐challenged cardiomyocytes, and in human AD heart tissue. These findings carry significant diagnostic and therapeutic implications, emphasizing the role of neuro‐signaling ...
